Fuel Setup?

Hey guys,

It's been about 2 years since I installed my PS1k. Couldn't get it to run, so two years later I'm taking a swing at it again.

I've checked all the wiring like 4 times, and had another person check it too. All seems well. We're pretty sure my problem is software related.

Car: S5 TII. Mods here. Mostly up to date.

Here's the problem I'm having:

The car runs very smoothly; starts right up, idles steady. Revvs up fine standing still. However, as soon as I start to drive it, the moment it begins to really start building boost (about 3000rpm) it bucks like a bronco, puffs out black smoke, and you CANNOT push through it. We threw it on the dyno for nearly 3 hours to no avail; no amount of adding or taking out fuel or changing timing made any significant difference.

We think part of the problem could be that the base map I am using is for an S5 with 550cc primaries and 1600cc secondary injectors. I have 720 primaries and 1600 cc secondaries (low imp). It doesn't appear, however, that there is a way to set up injector size; you just control it by adding/subtracting milliseconds right? So maybe that's not the problem... Because it's been so long, I honestly can't remember exactly which of Claudio's base maps I used.

We could be way off. As of now, neither me or my tuner have a really good idea of what's going on. He does not have much experience with the PS1k. I have a completely STOCK S5 TII ignition system. Bigger injectors as mentioned, and a Walbro 255. We tried swapping coils with another S5 and there was no difference.

I'm going to post here pictures of most my settings. I think there's a problem here (probably with the ignition setup), so if you can identify it, I would be very grateful (and you would save me a lot of money):

Again, if you see anything out of the ordinary please let me know. THANK YOU!

That's about the most jacked up map I've ever seen. Lots of issues. Drop me an email and I'll send you something that'll be a lot closer. ludwigmotorsports@insightbb.com

Honestly, you might also want to find another tuner. Regardless of how much experience anyone has with a particular interface, all systems do the same thing. You should be able to look at that 3D fuel map and see all the jagged edges and see an issue. You should be able to look at the load columns of the split map and see that it doesn't appear to include any positive pressure values.

Thanks for the input. I sent you an email.

When I get a good working map that my car runs with I'll post it here and get Claudio to post it in the maps thread.

Got the email. I'll send you something tomorrow.

This is behavior very indicative of a tuning issue at the staging area. The secondaries come on and dumping fuel.

Your staging bar could/should be moved up to a higher manifold pressure too. (I'm assuming you're using the old EV1 big body 1680's). Reason being is that your secondaries are so big and non linear on the lower end of their operating range that they will be very unpredictable. Thats bad for getting a smooth transition and also AFR consitency. Neither of which are fun.

take a look.
