FD TPS Problem
 

Running a FD manifold on my FC,Went to wire the tps to the haltech harness. Its wired correctly, and Ive checked, rechecked, and double checked. I get a solid 5v from the 5v ref, and I get a good .1v with a closed throttle. When I rotate the throttle, the .1v doesnt change at all. This is the 2nd tps I have tried, and I received the same problem. The haltech reads 0 when I try to calibrate, and remians at 0. Under the data page, it read a fault. Any suggestions would be helpfull, Im thinking the reading may be a false reading from the signal wire. I had a GM tps on my FC TB, and everything was working fine.

Im thinking you got it wired wrong. Try changing it, since there are 4 pins on it, 2 of them are signal outputs, a full range and a switch, you dont need the switch, i can never remember which are the pins, ill try to commit that to memory one of these days. But in the mean time, you've probably got it wired wrong.

Its very unlikely you had 2 bad TPS.

i remember when i did my 3 rotor, many moons ago, i used a voltmeter to figure out what pins were what.

All the write ups Ive seen say to not use the green and ride wire, because its the narrow band signal, Ill give it a try and see if i can get a reading from that.

Well, by looking at the wiring diagrams and pin out chart, you are right, the Green/Red wire is the narrow range, and the Black/Green?? is the full range. Maybe you have the power and ground leads backwards? I see a Brown/White (pos.??) and a Brown/Black (neg.??).

I tried switch the tps signal, nothing. Im getting kinda fustrated. My wiring troubleshooting skills are basic at best. Im seriously lost

as i recall, the pinout and wire colors were the same as the fd, and the s5 (s5 has an extra power and extra ground though).

basically you can put the voltmeter on the + and then the narrow or wide output, and moving the throttle it should go thru its resistance range

Well I hope you're not using the factory manual for reference. It's well known the factory manual has a mistake in the wiring diagram.

Looking into the TPS switch with the tab to the right or the rear of the car.
Top pin-----> gnd
2nd pin-----> not used
3rd pin------> 5v
Bottom pin--> TPS

Too bad AEM never took the time to check the pinouts and just went by what the manual had. So instead of plug-n-play it beacem plug-n-pray. :)
Because of that mistake in the manual AEM users had to switch pins for the TPS to read correct.

everything is wired correctly, I double checked. I even tried pulling out the main connector, and checking the pins, they looked good from what I could see. Im however no longer getting a fault for the TPS under the engine data page, just reads zero now. Im going to have a friend come over and see if he can work some magic. Could it be possible to have a bad ground going to the tps? I tried some continuity checks, and wasnt able to get anything, although again my electrical skills are amaetur

Tried something tonight, took the old GM tps (haltech Tps) and wired it, to see if it was the wires to the haltech. The GM tps worked fine, showed throttle perfectly. My idea is the tps connector is bad, perhaps not grounding correctly. Im on the search for a new connector

Just ohm out the pins on the connector. A lot of the older factory plugs/pins have this problem after many years of service the crimps become loose. The CAS plugs are known to have very high resistance sometimes causing a world of worries(noise,erratic signal etc.)) getting a proper signal.

OK here we go. as I said the haltech harness is good. Now I picked up another tps connector for the FD tps, and still reads 0. Im really stumped, im going to check some more resistence, but I find it hard to beleive I have 2 bad tps. Anyone have any experience mounting the GM tps that comes with the e6k on the FD TB? because I may result to that, if this tps problem doesnt fix soon

Yes, it really is odd what you are experiencing. There's a post around here with the Haltech TPS mounted on an FC, it shouldnt be that difficult for the FD, do a search on it.

But, it is strange.
