May have to upgrade to the 2500.

Very cool!

I like the stage injection enrichment decay being in engine cycles as opposed to time.

Generic missing tooth wheel support definitely a plus.

However, currently their is no RX8 trigger support listed, so for those that have already been running the FFE setup,(probably because their was no other supported for the rotary), are they going to have to get a different trigger?

also, While drivability-wise the staged injection enrichment will allow for much smoother operation, is there plans to have a stage off disenrichment so that you will be able to more closely maintain target AFRs?

RX-8 wheel is coming. The Elite is an entirely new platform with entirely new code. Everything trigger had to be re-written. Haltech has been very anal about not releasing any trigger they haven't tested themselves. The Subaru triggers are already supported. So the 36-2-2-2 pattern isn't a problem. It just takes time.

No idea on the decel fuel disenrichment.

No base maps included by the looks of it?
No trigger setups? :)

All the more reason to buy from a reputable dealer that's already run the ECU on your application. ;)

Fair point.

Great news, can't wait to try it out next month!

Problem is, my application has an RX8 trigger wheel.

C. Ludwig 04-14-15 09:37 AM

Damn. Tough crowd.

If you're serious about wanting an ECU and can't wait for Renesis wheel support, I've got 36-1 wheels on hand. Could probably throw one in for a repeat customer. I can't imagine Renesis wheel support taking too long.

I have VE base maps for various combo's for anyone that needs them. PM me and ill supply details.

Haltech Video Announcement

TeamRX8 04-16-15 10:49 PM

Let me get this straight. Haltech is marketing this for the RX8 when they don't even have the OE Renesis trigger wheel in there yet? Sounds just like when they popped into RX8Club several years ago talking up the then latest & greatest ECU only to find out it left the Renesis application hanging out in several regards. Then never to be heard from again.

As far as OMP, CANBus, and e-throttle/idle is concerned, I'll believe it when I see it. Until then I won't be holding my breath ...

OMP and DBW are done. DBW has been working from the beginning. OMP was just released. CAN integration will take some breaking down the Mazda protocol. So it's no small task. We asked Mazda Motorsports for the protocol about two years ago for a Syvecs integration and were told no. There has been some work done, which you're probably aware of, but it's far from complete. Right now the hardware is there, someone just needs to put the time into the protocol. Same could be said for Syvecs and Motec.

Yet they don't have the trigger wheel, but specifically mention the RX8. They didn't say "coming soon" or "in the near future". What was said is, "that time is now" and "even an RX8". Now the people who don't know the difference between hype and reality are running all over the web sqawking like it's a done deal.

I've heard it all before, so forgive my scepticism to not be interested in purchasing an ECU on hopes and promises. When it's done and proven feel free to let me know though.

So I downloaded the software and looked through it. There's no information on how the drive by wire controls work really, besides a video about the failsafes. There's one transfer function for accelerator pedal vs throttle position, but no explanation of how any of the idle control works or cruise control functionality. I don't see anything about torque reduction capability (ie controlling overboost with throttle, limiting engine torque when engine is cold), how the electronic throttle responds to accessory inputs or changes in ambient temperatures.

Am I missing something? Is this drive by wire software mature enough to actually run an engine?

Havoc 04-24-15 01:18 AM

Also I started playing with the software tonight. But just a general question, if i'm wiring it to my old E8 loom (which was new only a few years back) Ill be missing some wires wont I?

B20, B25, B26, B12, B13, B8, B9, B11, B6, B21, A13 are all new wires for the 1500. (and wont be in my older E8 loom will they?)

Also I ran a olde wideband, is there no way to do wideband input without doing the extender? Only narrowband can be added to the main unit.

still playing up if I scrap the OMP and just let it do idle motor control instead.... sucks you cant do both. (it keeps telling me the stepper 1-4 isnt allocated even when I tell it the OMP is there)

Idle control works how you think it would. It's pretty self explanatory when you look at the setup page. There is a long term trim/self-learning function as well.

There is no cruise control function at this time with DBW.

Overboost limit is through fuel cut only. Does a very effective job.

Torque limiting on gear change can have a coolant temp axis. You just have to add it. Boost control and ignition timing can also have a coolant temp axis to limit torque. There just isn't a throttle travel limit, if that's what you're looking for.

Inputs reaction of DBW would be user defined. Up to four inputs can be defined with individual offsets for those inputs. Reaction to ambient temp? In this price range you're asking an awful lot. The latest Motec hardware could do it, if you up for a development license. At that point, you're orders of magnitude more expensive.

Of course if you pick up a new box with several more inputs and outputs, you're going to generally not have those populated in the old loom. Same goes for Sport to Elite upgrades.

Yes, you can use your analog wideband. You just need to define in the software what input you have it connected to.

No reason not to use 2-wire BAC type idle control valve and keep the OMP. We have remote mount 2-wire valves similar to the older 4-wire blocks.
