Elite 550 NA Base Map Help for Time Attack Car

Hey Y'all,

I have been browsing RX-7 club for years searching for info to help with my FC Time Attack build. I am in need of some help and I can't find any info. I recently installed a Haltech Elite 550 into my S4 NA FC to get away from the old ECU and prepare for going turbo. I want to get the car running well NA before starting the process of doing a 6 port turbo. The ECU is wired up using the Haltech Premium harness and everything is ready to go but my next issue is figuring out a base map. When I talked to Haltech at Gridlife last year they assured me they have base maps for the Elite ECUs for the S4 and S5 cars but all I can find is old maps for the Platinum Series. Does anyone have any maps that I can look at to help build one for my car? I plan to run speed density and get rid of the MAF. I am new to standalone ECUs so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Some details on the current setup
Large street port S4
LS1 Coils (will be running direct fire)
550cc injectors
Factory CAS
Factory TPS
GM IAT
GM Coolant
GM Oil pressure

Thank you for the help!

Hey James,

I responded to your PM before I saw this thread. You won't be able to use a basemap from the platinum series ECUs as they utilize injector ms tuning and with the Elite ECU you'll be using VE tuning. The basemaps for the elites come as part of the ESP software download and aren't directly posted on the haltech webstite. If you haven't already, I'd check there to see if there is a basemap for a S4 NA in there to use as a starting point, but even if so you'll need to make some modifications to it so that it will work with your setup.

At a minimum, you'll need to:
- Setup the ignition for direct fire and make sure the I/O reflects what you have wired into your harness
- Set the injector settings to reflect your specific injector setup (what 550's do you have, and what base fuel pressure will you be running)
- Change the IAT, Coolant Temp, and Oil Pressure calibrations to reflect the outputs of the GM sensors (I believe these are baked into the software, but if not its easy to pull the data and input it directly)

In the event they don't have a specific file for the S4 NA or if the file they have is based in injector ms tuning based on the original MAF setup, we'll need to reconfigure it to be a VE based tune where fueling is calculated against RPM and MAP (I'm assuming you've already got a map sensor wired in or a map line run from the intake to the port on the ECU, if not you'll want to get that sorted before starting.

I'll check the software when I get home myself and see whats available, then can help you get all of these other items sorted and setup to get you fired and tuning!

hey Skeese,

i checked ESP and they just have base tunes for the S6-S8. They do have a S4 map that’s from the PS series which I thought we maybe able to use the ignition table and change the fuel.

So far I have the main things set like EngineSize, two rotor, ignition direct fire, crank trigger, and tuning method to VE.

I started inputting the callibratuons for the sensors in. I’m still learning where stuff is in the software so I haven’t setup anything for my injectors. My 550s are RC injectors and I have a set of stock 460s as well I can use.

Im running a vacuum line from the manifold to the ECU in the glove box. I figured I’d use it instead of adding another sensor.

Thank you for the fast response!

Hey James...

Just following up here for traceability and input from others. I've attached the tune file I setup to serve as a base map for your car. The I/O directly matches that of the wiring spreadsheet you sent me and the wideband O2, coolant temp, air intake temp and oil temp calibrations have all been setup for the parts you listed.

I copied the dead times of the injectors from what was listed in the old S4 turbo II tune file from haltech for he dead times of those primary injectors, as this was the best I could guess for stock 460cc injectors, but it should be functionally close enough to fire and run.

Input on the file from anyone else is welcomed. I'm not expert at NA tuning and had to make some assumptions in here based on what I know from tuning a turbo car using VE, but I'm pretty sure everything is right to get it fired up.
