E8 settings with bosch coils?

I am finishing up installing a E8 and have 4 bosch coils for ignition. I need to know the haltech settings to put in for charge time ect. Also wanted to know if Ign 1 and Ign 2 would go to leading 1 leading 2? Or leading 1 and trailing 1? Thanks in advance for any help.

IGN #1- front rotor leading
IGN#2- rear rotor leading
IGN#3- front rotor trailing
IGN#4- rear rotor trailing
that was in the back on the manual.
this is for direct fire i.e. four separate coils
i use this with my ls1 coils

Are these bare coils?
If so, the Haltech cannot fire them directly from the ECU.

This is correct, and you also need to set the ECU spark mode to Direct Fire so that all 4 signals work right. But, like RETed said, if these coils dont have an igniter, you will need one, do they have a built in one? if not, you can always get an MSD DIS4 to fire them with loads of spark energy. Remember to check your ignition settings for what you use.

Coils w/ igniters = constant charge, +/-3mS and falling edge
MSD w/ coils = constant duty, rising edge and 40% period

thanks for the responses guys, but im gonna be using the stock coils for now :(. i cant spare 300 for a DIS4 right now, i thought the haltech could run them just bare like the microtech did :(.

The Haltech CAN run any coil with igniter combo, but, it doesnt have built in drivers to just run the coils by it self without igniters. I believe the MTs dont have that either, you order it for stock setup with igniters or it comes with a specific set of coils.

use the stock ignitor for the trailing and a couple t2 ignitors for the leading. piece of cake, and cheap.

or use the stock ignitor only, but you'd have to piggyback the leading coils.

Good thing.
The MSD DIS-4 cannot fire a 13B. :(

so, in the future, is there any way to run bosch coils and an E8?

GUITARJUNKIE28 05-02-06 04:17 PM

use an ignitor, like i said in my last post.

im not sure wehat you mean by that, honestly. ignitor = coil .. or ? plus whats different about a t2 ignitor?

GUITARJUNKIE28 05-02-06 08:25 PM

2 of these if you're using the coils in sequential mode
http://speedmachineperformance.com/inc/sdetail/7536

stock fd ignitor if you're using wastespark on the leading.

in a nutshell, the computer tells the ignitor to fire, then the ignitor tell the coil to fire. the coil and ecu don't speak the same language.

The stock ECU or Haltech ECU shoots out a very low voltage signal to the coils.
The bare coil needs a stronger signal to fire a spark.
The stock coil "pack" includes an ignitor in it's base (for FC) or outboard (for FD) to "step up the voltage" so the low-power ECU signal is able to fire the coil properly.

Think of an ignitor as a step-up voltage box...

You basically need a minimum three channel ignitor(s) for "distributor" mode or 4 channels for "direct fire" for the Haltech.
Haltech sells their own ignitor modules (M&W's?) if you need them.
