E6X - Ugh... killed my tach :(
 

Hey guys.. feeling kinda sheepish here (yeah yeah, NZ sheep jokes aside)

I somehow killed my tacho last night while loading one of my old maps back in.
Was working fine before hand, played with my fuel, then decided it wasnt what I wanted... so loaded my backup map in and *wham*.. tacho reads 0rpm.
The ECU is reading rpm fine, but stock tach is no longer receiving anything? what the heck did I do? :rlaugh:

Was your tacho working with the map you reloaded when you had it in there beofre?

How are you feeding the signal to the tacho? stock ignition module? PWM output, Aux. Out? what ECU is this?

It's an E6X...Tach has always been working with this map (and all the other variations I have of it).

I believe the signal to the tach is from stock ignition module... but I could be wrong - The bigger problem is, my tuner who did the install has moved from NZ to the UK so that line of support is now gone.

Its a big problem, but im sure that you can find someone else to diagnose it for you. Is the car showing any signs of missfiring or not runing? or does it run fine and its just the tacho thats not working?

Car runs fine, no other problems whatsoever - just a dead tacho...
When I picked the car up after the haltech was put in, it had the same problem - when I mentioned it to the tuner/installer, he plugged his laptop in and it was fixed in around 30 seconds.. so guessing its just a setting somewhere.

As for finding someone else, unfortunately not that easy down here - all the rotary tuners suggest swapping to a microtech since thats what they are familiar with

A friend of mine with an E6K just upgraded to an HKS T51R-Kai BB and has no one to retune.. needless to say, hes pretty dark about it :P

That is unfortunate. How much of a market has Haltech lost down there in the past few years? or Haltech isnt very popular there? It dissapoints me a bit to hear that microtech has one up on Haltech.

Anyway, lets hope its a simple setting, but if you changed from your map (which worked) to another (which didnt) and then back to your original and still doesnt work, its probable that the tach went bad and its not a setting, sometimes you have to be carefull when you swap maps or reload them, the additional features get deactivated or worst its set to something different and damages whats connected there.

Have a look at all the options enabled in both maps, offline, and compare, see if you have a tacho output setup somewhere, if not, then check to see where the tacho signal comes from. Might help you track down the problem.

Well what do you know... got home tonight, and I loaded a completely different map, and then my base map again and tacho has decided to function again... cheers for your input Claudio :)

Haltech is pretty big down here, just not in the rotary scene... the biggest problem has been the cost - and it couldnt compete with the microtech being a good few hundred dollars less.

Now I just need someone to tune it... ~8.5:1 afr isnt exactly optimum :D

Don't suppose you've contact details for this guy have you as i've big issues trying to find a UK Haltec tuner with rotary experience. :dunno:
