E6x staged injection is a joke. Anyone try sequential?

Has anyone ran rather large injectors on sequential injection. I have ID1000 AND ID2000. E6xs on/off switch for staging is a joke, and well i cant modulate throttle through the staging without it breakibg up. Been chasing my tail and i cant upgrade ecu anytime soon. I am willibg to idle my car at 2000rpms if need be.

Would be awesome if someone could bring some insight to this strategy.

you running a pulsation dampener?

You’re dealing with 1980s tech. At its best, it’s pretty poor. The best thing you can do is move the transition up to the highest MAP level that the primaries along can support. For a road racing type situation where you need good, smooth maintenance throttle ability, you just want to stay away from the secondary transition if at all possible.

Next step is to just move on to current tech. An Elite 550 would be a huge upgrade over the E6K and the automated staging is very easy to make seamless.

If you are happy to run no spark split and to try swapping or buying new injectors to get 4 of the same you could run it as a 720 sequential 4 cylinder after removing one of the reset teeth. Would want to run ignition limiters to avoid the possibility of underfueling only slightly on a fuel cut.

I remember staging 720cc primary to 1600cc secondary took some work to get it nice and smooth on my old E6K all those years ago.

I actually had the transition super low and staged off MAP at ~2psi boost. My thinking was to get the staging done before there was enough "boom" in the combustion chamber to make the engine go "boom" during the lean spike of staging while tuning it.

One trick that really helped me is tuning the last tall bar right where you are about to get into staging (primary only) at the right AFRs. Then moving to the first bar of the staged injection and concentrating on that (ignoring AFRs and just going on what is smoothest). The first bar of staging needs a bit more fuel than what the Haltech calculates and then blend that into the 2nd and 3rd bar as well.

Once you get the transition smooth you can look again at AFRs for the 2nd bars of staged on- but don't expect to hold perfect AFRs during that first bar of staging switchover- it never happened for me.

Once you get your first RPM range done it is much quicker applying what you have learned to the other RPMs, but don't be surprised they all want a little different fueling on that first bar of 2ndary injectors. It has to do with the intake velocity and the injector atomization after all.

Lots of driving up hills

When i tune and try to minimize the lean spike of staging it becomes too rich wheb crossing staging at part throttle. And when i tune the staging smooth on part throttle its way lean spike on full throttle stage. I currently have staging at 3.x psi. and dont feel safe going any higher.

How about non staged sequential. Runnibg all four injectors abd just idling high? Or woukd this not work unless i wire prmary and secondary injectors together. If not i could make a second map just for the track. I would feel a lot more confident with a tune i could modulate throttle 100%

With that large of an injector it will be difficult to get the smooth transition you're aiming for (it can be done). Honestly, the only reason I've stuck with my E6X is because I'm running 2 ID1700x's on batch fire. Basically, the simplest set-up possible and I still have trouble dialing in the 3k portion of the map.

Not sure how you're tuning now (road vs dyno). If road, it may be benefical to simply rent some dyno time at a local shop and try to dial in the transition point. It's so much easier to tune the engine at the exact load point you need. That being said, I still need to go back and smooth out the 2500-3000 range on my peripheral port. Best of luck!

Yes ^^
When tuning a rotary you have to learn when it is safe to ignore the wideband and just go with what the engine wants to run best.

This is why I put the staging way down at ~2psi. It always had a lean spike on the wideband as 2ndaries came on under load, but I did manage to get the transition seamless in regards to seat of the pants feel.

Its even worse when crossing the staging droping boost, which is very important to me in road racing. i cant lift slowy with out it being on off.

I want to try annd run primary and secondary together. i must research.
