my buddy sent his haltech e6x off to haltech to get repaired (was not communicating with the laptop) and we got it back and now it is password protected... haltech said the password was haltech, but that password doesnt work...

anyone ever heard of this?

I know u can lock it and it will only go to display mode.

But maybe updating the bios will flush it.

Default should be "Haltech".
Try upper case "H"?

Was the ECU previously tuned by a Tuning Shop? If so, they may have password protected the MAPS that they tuned, which is what the password protection is there for.

If not, go into the display mode, and load a "Default" map. (assuming you have a saved version of the map on your computer if YOU tuned the car...) Go Offline, then reload your map back into the ECU... this will typically take care of the issue.

turns out all I had to do was just put in a password and let it go into the display mode then load up a map. Fixed that problem.

Sometimes, power issues will corrupt the default password field and just put randome data there. The fix is reloading the default basemap, making the password NULL and then reloading your own map. Sometimes ive seen people not keep backups of their maps i dont know why, but it has been known to happen.

If the Haltech went in for repairs its very likely that your own map isnt in there anymore too, so just reload your own map.
