E6k ignition problem
 

im having trouble with my e6k, its all wired up per hitmans specs and i have a hitman map, but i went to zero the timing and realized that there is double the spark that there should be. i know that the leading fires twice per rev and the trailing fires once, so the idle is at 1300 rpm on the ecu readout page and when i check the timing at the timing light (snap-on digital) its at 2600 on the trailing plug. what is going on? im stumped

haha...well another problem, if i zero the timing the car barley runs. when the timing is way off it runs fine, but the timing mark is on the right at like 45* off the pointer... i put the cas in the stock mazda location and hitman says to put the tooth offset to 11, but it wont run like that, so i put it to 3 and it runs, but now i cant zero the timing... what the hell is goin on?

hmmm maybee the pulley is off, ill check in the morning

the pulley was wrong... i set it to haltech usa's recomendation and now it runs right. still dont know why there is to much spark, but i just hope its happening at a time where it wont cause detonation...

What do you mean Haltech's recomedation? What do they recomend? Thanks!

What do you mean by too much spark? what kind of dwell setting do you have set on the ignition setup? If you have it too high you have a powerfull spark,but that might cause problems like roasting ignition modules or coils.

Did you zero the timing correctly? locked at -5, etc?

Sometimes Matt will advise on differences in the USA and Ausrtralian setups. Unless you are talking about the US office suggestions/email replies?

well, the tach says 1300 rpm, i know the leading coil fires twice every rotation bacause there is a waste spark, so my timing gun should give a reading of 2600 rpm, but it says 5200 rpm, and the trailing says 2600 rpm... haltech usa reccomends to take the pulley off the front of the motor (the 19 mm bolt) turn the motor so the key is facing at 6 o'clock, and put the CAS with the two main teeth directly lined up with the pick-ups, set Trigger Angle to 90BTDC, Number of Teeth to 24, and Tooth offset to 1.

Haltech USA? you mean, Matt or Trevor from the current California office, or is this information from the old Texas offices a few years back? that isnt the way to do it.

I had that similar problem with the timing light, I have an Eqqus digital tach and dwell read out timing light, and it showed 2600-3000 rpms, depending on the speed of the motor, but if im not mistaken, the leading coils fires 3 times per rev of the crank, so if the tach on the light read 3000k then it meant 1000rpms actual.

Anyway, Matt (the HITman)'s description of how to incert the CAS and zero the timing is a very good and detailed explanation. You should do exactly what it says there.

If you follow his instrucitions to a tee, you'll have it properly setup.

well, his set up works when you know you have a stock TII pulley, but i dident have a stock pulley i guess, i have a few pulleys lying arround and there all different. the info i got was from bdc motorsports website
