e6k data logging questions?

Ok so I have been playing around with my haltech e6k so I can learn it more. I did some data logging and when I go back and read through it I can't tell when I was in boost or vacuum.

I can read RPM, Coolant and air temp, tps, voltage, Inj. Ms., timing, range, bar, and time.

under "Press inHG" I cannot distinguish vacuum from positive pressure.

for example:

at 3020 rpm I am at 20.6 inHG. Then from that rpm till about 4960 rpm the number goes down to about 11.5 inHG and stays in the 11-12 inHG range till redline.

When did I go from vacuum to boost?? what number is vacuum and what number is boost? I did not jump from vacuum to 12psi of boost, there has to be a linear increase in boost.

I hope you guys can understand what I am trying to ask. I'm Confused at the moment about this. :pat: :pat: :pat: :pat:

On the E6K datalogs, the vaccum side of things will be in In/Hg, and the boosted will be in PSI, and when you are in vacuum, there will be an asterisk " * " on the vacuum values, when viewed in the software.

OK here it is. look at 7400 rpm at 100% throttle.

Then look when I got off the throttle at 0%.

It does not say boost or vacuum.

Are you running any boost?

yes, im running boost, i have a 60-1, and i have a 3 bar map sensor.

Thats funny, in the datalog the load column isnt putting the " * " when the load is in vacuum. I dont know why it doesnt do it, it should. Maybe you have older firmware? what version of DOS software, and tell me what "System Series and Version" you have, you see this when you are going online and the its loading, also, what serial number does your ECU have?

Yes, he is... look.

But the software should put the asterisk in the when the load goes to vacuum but its not doing it.

-=Lil Red=- 03-04-07 09:42 PM

i will check all that stuff tommorow and let u know, thanks guys :)

I asked, cause maybe the datalog screen doesn't show the "*" properly?
The decel should clearly pin way into the negative, so if the whole run was done in vacuum (in NA), then the missing "*" would make sense.

So either the MAP sensor is bad (or MAP sensor type of set wrong) - hell, that would cause the car is basically not run - or the datalog output is wrong?

Well the software should put an asterisk on the load column when its in vacuum, thats how it works, there's even a little note on the top of the datalog screen, but i dont have an answer for his system not to be displaying it.

At any rate, you can easily tell you're in either boost or vacuum by the load/tps/rpm values, they're pegged high so, no big deal there. Just gotta learn how to read it....

I'd download a fresh copy off of haltech's site and give it a shot. It should definitely show that * while in vacuum.

Actually, look at the RANGE and BAR values.
At the 28+ values (in vacuum), the Haltech is reading way into the vacuum ranges of the maps.
So it's missing the "*" on the display.
Unless the programmed map is really fucked up?
If it were truly reading 25+ psi of boost, the engine should not run at all on a normal map.

So it looks like the datalog display is wrong.

Are you using a Compaq computer?
Some of the Compaq computers have missing font symbols, so it doesn't display correctly - you need a special comm program made especially for Compaq computers to display everything correctly.

It's showing the * in the note at the top of the screen.

its a Dell Latitude Cpi, its and old computer.

i will hook it up to the car tomorrow and go online. I will do some free revving and see if i can read boost.

*ALL* E6K datalog screens show that dumbass.
Thank you - try again.

Why are you such an asshole to people.. didnt it ever occur to you that some people maybe learning this stuff? We didnt all come into this life with all the knowledge in the world like you seem to think you were blessed with at birth.

Edit: sorry for getting off topic for the people who are reading and trying to learn from this kind of stuff.

Houstonderk 03-06-07 07:09 AM

so it reads boost when free revving? For some reason always thought it needed a load of some kind. Just a thought though. I have a dell latitude older style and it shows the symbols so it should not be a problem with the laptop.

Don't worry, it's nothing personal against you.
We have a history.
You can go do a search and see why.
There's a reason why I've got him on IGNORE.
I only looked at his post this time, cause it was in this thread.

His response was of no use, so I don't know why he posted such useless information.

Tad, it's more or less fun busting your balls, but anywho, back to the thread at hand.

-=Lil Red=- 03-06-07 12:05 PM

ok i hooked up the laptop today with the car running and now it DOES read boost!

wtf? i dont know how but now it IS reading boost.

anyway i took screen shots to show what version of program i am running.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...li/startup.jpg

this shows my manifold pressure at idle, i dont see the *.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o97/frisili/idle.jpg

but i data logged it again and now i see the * next to vacuum. look at 7300 rpm boost!
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...sili/boost.jpg

classicauto 03-06-07 01:17 PM

You have 0.2psi when you're at 7340rpm? Or am I reading this wrong?

-=Lil Red=- 03-06-07 01:34 PM

yes, thats free revving, the car was parked. not under load

classicauto 03-06-07 01:46 PM

ahhhhhhhh

lol I was going to say, boy you've got some boost issues!
