E6k - Boost control?
 

Can I use my old stock S5 boost controler with my E6K ?

it has been done, but i you want I have a stock Boost control for the Haltech never used brand new... CHeapt, if you want PM me.
There was a thread sometime ago about it.

Don't do it if you can buy an aftermarket EBC - the Haltech boost control SUCKS!

Although it runs a 2D map (versus RPM), tuning the map can be tricky.
No matter how you tune the map, the boost response does not come close to what my AVC-R can do.
I think this has to do with the fact that "frequency" is set, and it cannot be changed along the map.
If your set-up has a little bit of boost creep, the Haltech just cannot stabilize the boost at all.

Some tuners have suggested to reverse the boost solenoid - running it as a restrictor with duty cycle decreasing to make more boost, but this negates the overboost safety feature built into the Haltech.
This gains better response, they claim, but remember to TURN OFF the overboost safety feature!
Haltech defaults to 5% duty cycle when you use this overboost safety feature when it hits your programmed boost level - having the boost solenoid inverted will cause instant more boost if you have this engaged!

I prefer my A'PEXi AVC-R.
It's relatively easy to program, and it's response is superior.

I wish Haltech would just program a single parameter algorithm that makes boost control a lot easier to handle - punch in "15psi" and the Haltech just tries to maintain 15psi.
Screw this "frequency" and "duty cycle" per RPM parameters - it's just a pain to tune when you're doing WOT runs with a laptop! :(
The 2D boost map sounds better, but programming it is a royal pain in the ass.
I mean we're just looking to make x amount of boost, so why not make it easier? :)

Yeah, I sort of understand what you are saying. I read the manual for the K.

I dunno...might be worth it just in the mean time. Need time to recover from rebuild/fmic/haltech costs.

Well, RETed. I bought the boost controler from jreynish.

But nobody listens to Ted so I suppose this controler will work just fine ;)

i would like to know how this works out. i have a haltech boost control solenoid and i'm weary of using it because everyone just says "it sucks"

I recommend using a standalone boost controller like a GReddy PROfec B. :)

Ive been running it on my setup for over a year with the haltech boost control solenoid and it does suck. Its a pain to program though once programed correctly it does control boost OK but the response is not all that great and for some reason after driving for long periods of time when the under hood heat goes up it decides not to work at all. I would recomend just getting a standalone boost controler like BDC sugested.
