Dead Haltech or CAS

I have also posted this on the general tech section but it must be a tough one. I accidently shorted positive to ground and lost trigger on my 87T2. I now show no rpm signal on the Haltech or my tach. All other Haltech functions seem to work. Fuel pump primes. My first notion was I just fried the Haltech, but Hitman did ask if might have been the CAS. Before I send off the Haltech to Aus. for repair, I would like to confirm that it is the CAS. Can anybody tell me how to either check the Haltech for a trigger signal or if the CAS is fried. Please help. This car does me no good in the garage.

to check the CAS you will need an ocilliscope(sp?) and a way to spin the CAS at engine rpm. easier to find a known good CAS and try that. CAS is a very robust unit and should not be affected by interchanging the battery terminals. the ECU is very fragile and could easily be damaged by getting the batery cables mixed up. ECU is likely dead.
