Coolant Temp Sensor Compatibility
 

Hey guys
Sorry, I don't have time to search because I'm at work and it's lunch time. I just have a quick question. Is the OEM Mazda coolant temp sensor that threads into the back of the water pump compatible with Haltech? In other words, can it be substituted in place of the GM coolant temp sensor?

I know the haltech and rx7 sensors have a different thread size/pitch. So if you wanted to replace the stock sensor, you would need to re-tap the hole. But the stock sensors are compatible with the haltech, you just need to calibrate the sensor to get the correct reading (haltech sensor and mazda's read different)

I'm actually running a Electromotive TEC3 instead of a Haltech. I just assumed that if Haltech uses GM sensors and guys are substituting the OEM Mazda sensor, then the same substitution can be made for the TEC which also uses GM sensors. From what you said, it seems you can recalibrate the sensor curve in Haltech and I'm not sure if you can do that with the Electromotive.

i wouldnt worry about recalibration, it appears to be only 5-10 degrees off. just tune your coolant map accordingly

We actually have a sensor that has the correct calibration that is a direct bolt-in swap for the stock sensor. No need to guess at the accuracy.

I have a Bosch coolant temp sensor from a BMW kicking around that I'm going to try also.

What about the air intake temp? On the GSL-SE 13B I just pulled out, it looks like there is a 2-wire air intake temp sensor threaded into the UIM opposite the throttle body. Is this one compatible with the GM part too?

Do you have a link or anything for that sensor? Im looking to use a haltech elite 2500 for my FD soon, already bought the wide band, gonna buy a coolant temp sensor, and fuel pressure regulator/sensor as well.

To answer his question yes it does work with the Haltech. There are calibration files built into the software package specifically for FC and FD air and coolant temp sensors. Im using an Elite 550 to run my single turbo, OMP deleted 13brew in my FC. Im using new OEM coolant and air temp sensors along with the FD TPS and e-shaft position sensors. Running the internal MAP on the Haltech
