can't open maps?

Alright, I don't actually have a Haltech but I downloaded the Halwin 1.71 software off their website because I'd like to get familiar with it should I ever have a car with Haltech (way easier to use than AEM EMS software so far). I also downloaded one of the basemaps from the sticky just so I could poke around. Now maybe I am missing something, but I can open up the software and go look at the generic fuel and timing maps. But when I open the file (I click "load all maps" on the file menu) it doesn't appear to do anything. I can still view the generic fuel and timing map but my "load map" icon is still grayed out. Does that only work if you are actually connected to an ECU? Or do I have the wrong version or something?

Exactly what map are you trying to load? That software is for the E8/11. You might be trying to load a map for the E6K/X.

"E8 - 13BT S4/S5 engine, toggle feature enabled, 550/1600cc injectors." from the sticky . I'm pretty sure I downloaded E8 software.

I just downloaded that map and opened it with 1.71. Works fine for me. Not sure what problem you're having. Have you unzipped the file and are you trying to access the .map file?

2 Things:

1. The map is in a ZIP file, you have to extract it from there.

2. By default, windows always "hides the extensions of known file types" and when you try to save a map it will rename the file with the extension set as a .TXT file, but since its hiding the extensions on you you cant see it.

Open up Windows Explorer, go to Tools/File Options, then select the VIEW Tab, then uncheck "hide extensions of known file types" option. Then you'll be able to see the .xxx extensions for all your files on your computer, make sure that the map's extension doesnt end up like Mapname.map.txt, if it does, just rename the file deleting the ".txt" part.

Now you should be able to open the map using the software.

Also, never try double clicking the map file it self, there is no association in windows that links the file with the Halwin program, open them from within the program using the LOAD ALL MAPS option in the FILE menu.
