A/C not working after E8 install
Like the title says, my air conditioner stopped working after I removed the stock engine harness.
I've searched multiple forums, the FSM, wiring diags, and googled it, but I can't seem to find an answer to this one. I had the same problem with my stock temp guage until I identified the yellow wire and reran it. I'm assuming that there is a similar wire(s) for the A/C. The car is an S5 TII. The A/C worked great before the install. Has anyone had this problem and remembers how to fix it? Thanks |
The AC Switch (Aux. In 1 input set to AC Request) and AC Relay (PWM Out set to Air Con) wires have to be wired through the Haltech, that way you will also have control of the AC when you step on the gas and the compressor can be deactivated. This is controlled by the Factory ECU.

OK, but I still don't know which wire(s) i need to re-run/splice into. In other words, I understand the Haltech's functionality but I don't know which wires in the factory harness are related to A/C. Thanks, though. |
Do you have a pin out diagram of your OEM ECU? its clearly stated right there. If you dont have one email me and ill FW to you.

Hey Claudio, should the PWM be connected to the AC Relay, via a relay, or can it be directly connected?

I guess we're making progress. So the only wires I need to worry about are the ones from the factory connector, pins 1L and 1O. The engine harness has nothing to do with A/C? |
Well I connected 1O and 1L to AuxIn1 and AuxOut1 respectively.
Configured both as normal style (not inverted). Set AC settings to 33% TPS, 3500 RPM and 7s delay. Does this sound right? It wasn't working(no cold air, no engine load), and when I monitored AuxIn1, it was on most of the time but it would show "off" occasionally. It acts like a grounding problem. So if the settings are right, could I have to connect some sort of ground from the Haltech to the Logicon? |
What you can do is try inverting the outputs to see if that sets it as what its normally expecting, either a normally closed contact or a normally opened contact.

Not having much luck..... Another question though: If this (Haltech) was MY design, I would configure the Aux IO pins so that if you configure an AC input to be normal or inverted, the output would automatically follow the same convention (i.e. the user would not have to specify normal or inverted for BOTH the input and output). I didn't see anything in the manual that would address this question. Either way, there's only 4 combinations of settings and I've tried them all. I think I might start looking at the logicon. Any other ideas are welcome. |
