Boost tuning question

I am still quite a ways from tuning the boost, but I have been reading up on everything I can and I have a question.

We are building a '94 FD,
A-spec kit PT6266
Precision 46mm wastegate
Haltech PS1000
MAC Boost control solenoid

We are looking to get in the ballpark of 500whp. I want to be able to set up to control the boost by gear and also turn the boost down for street use.

The question is.........

Once I get the PID working right at say 20psi, can I expect the PID to work correctly at all boost levels below that? or Is it going to be set up correctly at one level and have to "just do" at others?

You'll be good. I'd recommend incorporating a trim pot on an AVI as your method of changing boost for the street. Tune the boost controller map for the highest boost level you'll want to run and then use the trim pot to lower the boost. We like to use the AEM trim knob since it has detents in it that make it easy to know how much you're raising or lower the trim. You'll also pull boost for the lower gears with the boost by gear function.

I expect 20psi wouldn't be good in lower gears for much more than a bunch of tire smoke.

I know that I can seem Apparently Very Ignorant, but I don't figure that is what you are talking about with an AVI.

So what is that?

Never mind I got it Analog Voltage Input

I am still learning this Haltech lingo.

So with a maximum boost of 20psi if I set the Max Correction to -60% and there are 12 positions on that trim pot then each click will be about 1psi?

Hard to say exactly without testing. Depends on any number of factors. Percentage of correction will be duty cycle percentage, not boost pressure. Set it up and test.

Besides being new to the boost thing, my normal mode of operation is megasquirt.

But I'm a learnin...........

Thanks for the feedback, I expect you can expect more questions from me.
