13B-REW ignition options with Haltech
 

I will give a rundown of what I am doing.

I am putting a street ported 13BREW in my 85 FB. I will be using a 62-1 single and a Haltech E6X. I plan to make between 400-450whp. The car will be mostly street driven with an occasional track or drag run.

My question is the options I have with the ignition.
Are the FD coils up to the task?
Would FC coils be better?
Would the Haltech coils and ignitor be better?

I was thinking of going with 3 MSD 6a's.
Is there a better way to make a strong spark with the Haltech?

I'm not looking for an expensive "super" ignition. I am looking for a simple strong setup that will work well for my power output.

I have 2 options for ya:

1. Real good condition FC coils, or

2. LS1 Coils which haltech sells for about 65 bucks each and provide pretty good spark for your power needs. I have personally tried them so far upto 425hp to the wheels on that Miata Drag car i did in Curacao and so far not one single hickup from them, and that car is running 8.7's @ 153mph. :D

I actually like the sound of #2. It seems more reliable. Almost everything in my setup will be new. If I went with the FC coils they would be used and there would be no garantee of their wear.

When you used the LS1 coils, did you run any kind of amplifier?, or was it all coils?

I take it you used 4 coils since they are single post coils?......
Was it hard to wire up with the the Haltech?

Not at all, they are real simple to wire up, there's actually a post around here with the pinouts and i believe haltech can provide it too. Also, they have their own built in igniter, making them totally practical and very affordable.

Their optimum Dwell setting is around 5-5.5mS of charge time. They are single post coils, so depending on ECU you use the Leading will either share an ignition output or they will be each using their own channel.

Yes, but it's way more expensive.

I will be using the E6X, so I take it I will have to splice the output for the leading and trailing both? Doesn't the E6X only have 2 output channels, 1 for leading and 1 for trailing?
