They look insanely cool! Love that they are slight even more sleepy...but retain full functionality! Such a great product!

Dual 90s wouldn't work with the current design - but if you scroll up - I have pics of the 90mm hi-beam LEDs which I will give a shot.

I personally don't think LED technology is "there" yet (in the aftermarket) for everyday lo-beam use. But I'm sure that's improving daily. Not only that, but prices are dropping, so maybe sooner or later there will be a good option.

So the clay molds worked out well. So well in fact, that we pulled some fiberglass molds from them in order to give a little more forgiveness with the final tweeks. There is still some more work to do and I want to paint these black in order to give them a more OEM feel - but I would say with confidence the design is 90% of the way there.

We're the little engine that could right now. Chuggin' on.

Why are the lights recessed behind the shroud leaving an opening? Is that just a loose mock up?

Out of curiosity, with this design and the choice of lights, do both come on when the headlights are activated then one cue up for the high beams? Does only one come on for lows, then switch to the other for highs (like the KS version)?

Annndd
Will they be available in both LHD and RHD low beam versions?

I think you'll need something to keep all the rain and road debris out from the area behind the light covers

I am sure Matt will answer this, but my prototypes of this design keep all four lights on when running the high beams. I do this thru a relay. So, when you turn the lights on, the low beams are activated, and when you turn on the high beams, the low beams stay on and the highs also come on.

I did this because I didn't want to cycle the low beam HIDs on and off, as this would cause them to fail quicker. So leaving the low beams on when using the high beams seemed to be the best option.

If you were thinking of running all four lights at one time for the low beams, this is technically illegal according to DOT, so I would avoid this.

??? What is different with this than the original popups, other than this version opens up less than the originals? I've experienced no issues at all with mine and have had them on the car for over 6 years. If you are referring to some damage to the lights themselves, remember, Matt is using sealed units, so no debris or rain can get in.

Also, the lamps are adjustable... front to rear and side to side and top to bottom via the adjusting nuts. This allows the customer to recess them as well as align their beam.

Thank you. It's sure taking long enough.

Out of the box, the low beams (outer) come on with the standard switch. Then the high beams (inner) come on and stay on with the low beams when activated.

As for LHD / RHD - the lamps are ambidextrous. They are DOT, SAE and ECE approved - so LHD vs RHD will be a matter of adjusting them for proper output.

I think it'll be ok. This exists with the OEM design as well.

As for updates, just a little cleaning up around the front/inner of the shroud where it meets the hood/bumper...

I was thinking all four lights on at the same time. Based on the Hella lights I was looking at on their site, I'm assuming the outer lights are the high beams. They also have some low/high beam combination lamps. So, in my mind, you turn the headlights on, all four lamps illuminate. You flick the highs on, the outer lamps cue up to the high beam with their lows and the inner lights staying on.

It's less distinct if one were to flash someone, but aesthetically much more pleasing. To me, anyway. This was my primary issue with the KS lights, their switching from inner to outer lights for hi/low modes.
Also, Japan, so DOT doesn't really apply. But, it's not high beams on all the time, if that was what you happened to have thought.

I needed to read a bit more, I'm an idiot. Swap the inners and outers in my previous post. Can the centers (highs) have a dual bulb to have all four lights at once?

No worries. Yes. That is entirely possible.

There are actually a few VERY nice Hella modular lamps that could work in the high beam spot... HID, LED, Bi-Halogen... the challenge is cost. You could easily spend $2000 on lamps alone if you really wanted to. But we're trying to have a product that everyone can afford.

We will most likely offer an entry level kit and an upgraded kit. From there - I hope people take the project in their own direction. Upgrade the bulbs, upgrade the lamps, modify the wiring - heck - even modify the bezels! But we need to finish this entry point before we can even think about offering anything else.

47 pages to read... reading is hard I know this is a "one day" thing... but also saw its 90% of the way there.

has there been any goal date for these to go to market or price point?

Hey there!

I apologize for having you read the entire thread. It's daunting, there are many characters and many hiatuses.

Here's the TLR for anyone new to the party...

- The original lights were a one off by awesome member and lighting guru David Hayes
- This current project is an offshoot of a THAT set
- This product was originally being developed by a former member in 2013 (earlier?) and with a completely different plan of attack (modified OEM buckets)
- I took over this project as a labor of love back in 2017 (around page 15) and changed the goal to a bolt-in replacement, completely reversible and without any modification to original equipment
- The project has been slowly churning since then, with our first real prototype of the bracket / lighting happening just about a year ago. Since then, it's been refinement, prototyping and most recently trying to wrap up the shrouds before moving into production.

That brings us to your question; is there an ETA or price point? The short answer is "no". BUT, we're really, really close. If I said "by end of summer", I think that would hold true if everything works out and we don't run into stock issues with Hella or another unforeseen factor. As for price, we've always been using the SakeBomb Garage HID Headlights as a benchmark ($1195). To offer something on par (HID, maybe even an LED option) I think we can come in right around that price point. For the more budget minded, I think $1000 for a base-base halogen kit is feasible, then customers can add their own HIDs, LEDs, Laser Beams, etc at their own pace.

Again, nothing is set in stone - but I can't tell you how much I appreciate you guys sticking around and holding out.

The best plan would be to SUBSCRIBE to this thread. That way you can get a instant, daily or weekly notices if/when this thread is updated.

Also, I'm sure it will be blasted across Facebook Groups, Instagram, and elsewhere in the forums when it is ready for deposits.

I still have this stock rubber block or whatever its called on my FD hood which does what you are asking for.

Not even sure what these are called but maybe you can make something like this to go with your kit or if someone could find the PN for the stock ones.

I am interested in this kit as well, hope it gets done this year!
