GB: SakeBomb Garage - Feather-Light 880 CCA Lithium Ion Re-Start Battery + Mount

As many of you know, we've been working with the design team at AntiGravity Batteries to put together the ultimate package for a super high cranking amp (880 CCA!!!) battery for the FD and other platforms we support. The goal was an Ultra Lightweight (~5lbs) battery, with massive cranking amps, and ample reserve capacity (30AH)... WITH auto shutdown / restart technology. The ATX30 ended up as the perfect balance, and the super light weight battery allowed us to design our own battery mount that is versatile enough to mount in various locations around the FD (as well as custom applications with our mount system).

Assuming there is enough interest, we will be putting together a few mounting location options that are plug and play with our mount as well as include all of the required wiring, grommets, pre-made and ready to drop in the car. Relocation kits are great for v-mount setups, cleaning up the engine bay, reducing dead weight from the chassis by removing a lead acid battery, etc.

Before we roll out the final details we would like to see what mounting/placement locations people are interested in and put together our kits accordingly. Pricing for the kits is currently TBD, and will depend on the materials needed to create each kit (for instance, trunk mount kits will be more expensive due to the additional cable requirements (thicker gauge and longer runs).

The new AntiGravity battery technology is absolutely amazing... faster cranking times with double to triple the cranking amps as a lead acid battery, small footprint like the tiny braile style batteries currently used to save weight and space, super light (5lbs) allowing the flexibility to mount in various locations without paying a weight penalty (for instance you can mount in the less used driver bin - and not the passenger bin - as you do not need to worry about weight offsets any longer), and you'll never need to worry about jump-starting your car again with the re-start technology - while also protecting the Lithium-Ion battery to prevent battery degradation. Win win win!

All battery mounting kits will include:
  • ATX30 Battery
  • SakeBomb Garage Billet Mounting Bracket Kit
  • Direct Fit Mounting Bracket Adapters
  • All Required Pre-Crimped Cabling, Grommets, Hardware, etc.

We are considering 3 kits:

  • Bin Mount (driver Bin)
  • Trunk Mount (left or right side - please vote)
  • Engine Bay (battery replacement)

For those wanting to make their own kit, or not wait for the GB, we are well stocked on our SBG-Designed Billet Battery Mounts, and ATX 30 batteries.

GB Interest List: Please add your name and desired batt location, plus any options). Feel free to comment in this thread as well with input or suggestions. We will post example pictures of the battery locations shortly, and video comparing cranking speed vs a lead acid battery :)

Regarding an engine bay mount, the TurboJeff setup is really nice, except the battery is too far outward in the engine bay and doesn't provide enough room for the terminal and fuses. If there were some setup that addressed that, I'd be interested. I think a really well planned and documented trunk mount kit would do well too. Grommets, pre cut cables, drill locations, classy cable routing. There's too much research and guesswork leading to sub par installs. Not a big fan of putting one in the bin. Aside from losing cool storage space, the bin's weren't conceived to handle that load in an crash scenario. But, that's me. You do you.

Agreed... BUT... the rules of engagement have now changed. 5lbs is SO light... our billet mount in retrospect is over-engineered. When we got these in for testing originally I thought we were sent an empty plastic "display" unit... nope... full battery. You could mount this thing on the roof if you wanted, it's crazy. Hard to explain until you hold one but these batteries are insane (and double the cranking amps of a standard battery!).

The battery is coincidentally an area of my build I haven't finalized yet so I'm definitely interested. I've got the greddy v-mount so I have to figure something out. My highest desire would be trunk, if the kit is comprehensive enough. Something similar to the setup eric (grand mighty) made, with a custom mounting bracket placed within the spare tire well, would be spectacular. Especially if it could still be covered. If the trunk kit is something along those lines, I'm in. With that said I'm not married to a particular solution so I'm very interested to hear details on the other options you're ideating on. The only think I know I won't do is cut up the bins to accommodate a battery.

That makes two of us!

A trunk kit in the spare tire well would be a very good option for me. If it could fit without sticking up over the edge it could be incorporated into those spare wheel tool box setups from feed and the like.
1 - Would you be able to ship this international?
2 - The dimensions are 165mm, 175mm and 127mm if i am correct?

As for pricing, AntiGravity has a mount for $179 and the battery itself is $399, so i dont think this be a budget option. But then again, Sakebomb is not in the budget business either so ;)

I"d like to relocated mine where abs is. Otherwise I'd consider bin or trunk.

The total kit will be an affordable kit that is priced competitively with all the parts you need :) Just listing the standard parts if anyone wants battery only or mount only, or doesn't feel like waiting. :)

You guys are on a roll :icon_tup:

I was looking at this exact battery to replace my full size AGM currently in the hatch with this in the bin.

Adding. Bin and trunk mounts will need provision to mount direct to the body (e.g. rivnut). It may be 5-6 lb, but 5-6 lb can still do some damage (and there's also the tech guys to worry about)

Yeah,i was not bashing the price at all, or suggested that it was unreasonably priced.
I was just posting them in the thread in case people did no know how much it was from the supplier. The kit will no doubt be of the same quality (and thus price range) as everything else you sell. You get premium, and that will no doubt cost premium, and will be worth it :D

TwinCharged RX7 05-07-19 01:39 AM

I think passenger bin is needed. It's not used just as a weight offset, i use my driver bin frequently for premix and other things I need often. Passenger bin keeps the battery out of the way.

Akomix 05-07-19 06:01 PM

Agree with this.

Definitely interested if passenger bin is an option.

Brekyrself 05-13-19 01:51 PM

If we can use existing mounts in the trunk without drilling new holes into panels or the body that would be perfect. Otherwise Engine Bay it is.

Would want a mounting location that works with the Greddy V mount and AC

Either of these options would be highly desirable.

AZieger 06-11-19 12:22 PM

I have been using this battery on a stock compression LS3. So far so good. However I caution you not to rely to heavily on the Re-start feature. My first one died because I left my HP tuners programming cable plugged in for a week. Re-start didn't work, and AG ended up replacing it under warranty (whew!).

SBG - Curious what your take is on the feedback thus far?

We're finishing up the trunk mount to start first, and working on seeing if we can make it compatible with the Greddy V-Mount.

For the bin setup we are waiting on our 3D scanner to come back from repair, but it will be a single piece billet configuration requiring minimal modifications to retain as much of the stock bin integrity as possible (hopefully just one hole max ;) Stay tuned, that version n the works!!

All SBG battery kits will come with:
  • PnP Battery Mount
  • AntiGravity Restart Battery
  • All Required Mounting Brackets
  • All Battery Cabling Required - Pre-Crimped (positive, negative, and fuse)
  • 120A+ Fuse Block / Disconnect

The goal here is a fully plug and play battery kits, in a few variants!

ptrhahn 08-05-19 07:13 PM

Where in the trunk will it mount?
