GB Manual Steering Rack

We have now completed are long awaited Steering rack. They truly are a marvel and are looking to take deposits for making the units.

The majority of components are made, and so it is just a case of bolting them together.

We have taken the old design and made it better.
The track rod arms are replaceable using a simple bolt on and off arm rather than the need to shim.
The bearings are stronger
The unit is slightly lighter
Both LHD and RHD are hard mounted to lower the unit.

We are looking to take deposits. These will need to be made via PayPal. We would ask that the deposit is made in the conventional manner so that you have the confidence of the protection, but once the items are ready to ship we would ask that either you cover the fees or gift the payment. That way we can pass on a better price to you the end user.

The new racks are £750+VAT The VAT only applies to buyers within the EC So anyone outside Europe the rack will be just £750

We are offering a 10% discount for the first 50 units sold either in LHD or RHD

This brings the price to £675 outside Europe and £810 within Europe.

We require a deposit of £250 and then once we have at least 10 units I will make them, these will be shipped within 4-6 weeks from the point at which the first 10 are ordered. And providing the final amount is paid.

Shipping will be quoted at the point of ordering depending on where in the world you are. If you can group orders then this will save on shipping costs.

The deposit is fully refundable if we cannot meet the 4-6 week deadline

Is the steering ratio the same as stock or changed? How will effort change from stock? What are being used for inner and outer tie rods; factory spec? How will we get replacement tie rods when needed?

Is this a pick up of the old Atomic Rex stuff?

The ratio is changed so that it is faster (2.4). It was designed so that you should be able to drive around a hairpin without having to shuffle your hands.

The track rods themselves are custom to the rack, but if and god forbid it would happen, we were to go I would make public the company making the rack bars for us. They have been in business for 30 years now, so aren't going anywhere!

They are far easier to replace though, which is the reason I have gone down the route I have. They still use standard ends though, so you can run standard or aftermarket knuckles.

It is loosely associated with the old atomic rack, but it much improved.

Thanks for the replies. Any idea on steering effort compared to a stock rack with a looped-line manual conversion?

Ideas on cost of replacement parts (track rods), and maintenance required for the unit for a regularly tracked car? Are there dust shields/boots that will come with it to help protect the unit or do we need to source our own?

I haven't a final price on the track rods, but they will be approx. £30 each.

The units will come with the dust boots, the same as the ones on a conventional rack, so shouldn't need any maintenance. I would think that any steering rack company would be able to service the item, but I would hope that it should last a good 5-10 years before that is necessary.

The effort is less than a looped-line/stock converted rack due to the type of bearings used, but it will still be more than the power steering obviously.

However, we are going to be offering an in car conversion to run a column mounted assistance. I will keep everyone updated on that. As we are looking to find a better ECU that doesn't cost the earth!

What is your affiliation with AtomicRex?

JBF 11-05-13 02:04 AM

Interested in a US shipped price.

AtomicRex died, so is no longer. I have bought all of the rights to their products out of the business and set up Minotaur Racing to sell other parts as well.

I think the shipping cost will be approx. £80 to be shipped via FedEx with insurance.

Locking this thread again as there seems to be some new findings and minotaur racing may not be who he says he is
