FD3S Titanium Dolphin Tail Exhaust?

Coming off the success of our Titanium Strut Tower Bars - we wanted to explore a few more titanium goods. There are a couple projects already underway - but for a high dollar item like this - I wanted to check in with everyone first.

High on my personal list of "wants" is a Titanium Dolphin Tail Exhaust. The RE-A one is obviously top of the list, but seeing as they don't make it anymore AND used ones in pretty rough condition can fetch $1500+ I was thinking about getting tooled up for a run.

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/00...talled.jpg?178
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/00...loseup.PNG?179

The plan would be to run a small batch again (we'll see where the interest ends up) with a target price of $1500. Pre-order would be 50/50 - half down to commit and secure a spot, the other half due at shipping. It seemed to work out pretty well for people last time, so why not try it again?

The goal would be to pay homage to this legendary exhaust and improve upon it where we can.

FEATURES
- Full titanium from flange to tip
- Low profile oval muffler
- Quality packing for proper noise deadening
- 3in (80mm) piping
- Optional 3.5in (90mm) piping MIGHT be possible
- Single 4in (100mm) 'Dolphin Tail' tip
- Optional dual 2in (60mm) 'Dolphin Tail' tips
- Choice of fully polished or matte finish muffler/tip - both would have a burnt end
- Weight TBD - but expect under 10lbs

Since this is an INTEREST thread, if you are interested - please add you name and options below.

TA Dolphin titanium muffler

It's the fifth item on the list.

It was discontinued until Ito-San of Ito Syokai hounded Ama-San to bring it back specifically for his personal car. FYI, It's now become an RE Amemiya x Ito Syokai collaboration item that is sold under Ito Syokai and as far as I know, it is still available. Just tossing this out there since you had mentioned that it is no longer available.

Nice! I was not aware of that - BUT - it's the TA style muffler, which I'm not really a fan of. Also, does it look like a cut/weld lobster tail tip? Kinda hard to tell from the pic on their site.

My goal is to have the original low-profile oval muffler with the Dolphin Tail... and at a much more attractive price point.

AE_Racer 06-21-19 03:53 PM

I would be in at 85mm or 90mm piping

johgar 06-21-19 04:19 PM

I would love one.
Do you ever think about dual dolphin tips?

@AE_Racer
It *should* be doable. Waiting on confirmation. Throw your name down on the list if you're serious. Obviously, the more interest, the more likely it'll happen.

-Going to use a burns stainless style rebuildable muffler with scrubble packing?
-What about a matching mid section with another muffler/resonator?

Probably not rebuildable to be honest. Options are limited on full titanium mufflers. I will get details on the packing.

It's on the product roadmap along with a downpipe. BUT first we need to get through this one. :)

Narfle 06-21-19 05:40 PM

Please make it 75/80mm piping. Anything over 3" is straight obnoxious. And, it's going to be titanium. 3.5/4" titanium will sound like hot ass.

The RE-A is 80mm piping and doesn't sound *too* obnoxious - 80mm translates to 3.15in.

But it's also going to depend on resonated/non-resonated and/or catted/non-catted mid pipe and of course downpipe (but I'll assume any car running this has a straight/catless DP).

With a resonated midpipe - it's not horrible:

However, I agree a 3.5in (90mm translates to 3.54in) might be a bit louder. But then again, midpipe will factor in... and of course, if you're running 3.5in exhaust - your neighbors probably already hate you.

Narfle 06-21-19 11:33 PM

I just want a well made, handsome, oval canister that I can drive without alerting the authorities to my whereabouts. Extra points for titanium and dolphin tip.

Our goals are identical. I just got rid of my Racing Beat Dual because I went single turbo. That sucker was perfect.

But now that I made the jump - I'll do what I can to control the sound at the midpipe. I've even been toying with the idea dual resonators, or, :gasp: cats.

I'm surprised (and thrilled) that there is so much desire for a 3.5in exhaust! That's one of the great things about these interest threads.

We're currently in the process of getting everything drawn up. Ideally, we are going to mandrel bend the main piping and tip(s) to eliminate lobster cuts/welds. I will keep you guys posted as things progress.

Whatever you guys do, don't move into @Narfle neighborhood!

I’m keen but all depends on noise level as to what I would pick we get slammed in certain parts of Australia

Check the above video and maybe look up some more on YouTube. They're not HORRIBLE, but then again, I don't know how bad your cops are.

A lot will also depend on midpipe. I have one of the older Magnaflow midpipes that does a pretty good job of toning down most exhausts. But I've even considered moving to a hi flow cat / resonator combo.

Some of the road regs, like noise and ride height, are downright draconian in Oz.

ZE Power MX6 06-28-19 12:06 PM

I'm running Ganador Ti (believe 80mm) with a Magnaflow midpipe, noise is ok but I wouldn't want it any louder. I'm still running twins so it'll probably be even louder with single, and it gets annoying if it is longer than a usual 20-30mins drive
