Bubble Tech Engine Cover (Coming Soon!)

6 Attachment(s)
We are currently designing an engine bay cover to hide the ABS system, Brake booster, lines and hoses along the firewall. They are very distracting and this helps clean up the engine bay appearance a great deal!

Material: 2x2 Twill Carbon Fiber
Price:TBD

Here are some pics of our progress:egrin:

Some pics. We will update as we go along.

**NOTE** the straight lines will be complete and close the gap from the cover and strut tower, we are unhappy with how this came out so we are rethinking our approach

looking good so far!

Looks awesome, great job so far! I can't wait for the final product I've always loved the knightsports one. Will this be a pressured carbon fiber product as well to add rigidity or replace the need for a strut bar or will it be designed primarily as a cosmetic cover?

Bubble Tech 12-04-12 12:37 PM

Thanks for the comments!

This is more for cosmetics and designed to allow you to retain the use of a strut tower bar.

It will be made using the Resin Infusion process.

Nice work! Cant wait to see the finished product.

It looks pretty good to me. Any idea when they will be available?

We are shooting for before Christmas. But that may be wishful thinking. Right now the door panels are first on priority then this. I'll say Ending of January to be safe =)

vrx8 12-04-12 05:54 PM

Are you going to start a group buy on doors panels?

Bubble Tech 12-04-12 05:58 PM

The door panel thread can be found here:

But to answer you question, yes the will be sold in a group buy type manor!

can't wait. Count me in

Looks great. One constructive comment:

It needs an access port for the brake MC. Especially for track guys, you need to be able to check fluid level and top off from time to time. Ideally you wouldn't want to remove the whole strut bar, etc.

Thanks for the comment. A few other people voiced this out along with the concern for oil dip stick access but this is purely for aesthetics so we decided not to add those for appearance reasons. We would image you would take this off for a track event as well as it would serve no purpose at the track (besides look really cool with the hood up!

Love it. I'd guess that would work on a 3 rotor, right? I've been searching for a way to hide all that junk in the back. Nice work Benny.

Bubble Tech 12-21-12 05:03 PM

David, Im un sure since i have no 3 rotor! I think 3 rotors will be trick as theres a few ways to mount the motor as far as sub frame placement... I think the 3 rotors might need to trim the cover to fit... Do you mind measuring how far away your manifold is from the firewall?

David Hayes 12-21-12 08:05 PM

Sure but it will be about a week. I use the Pettit subframe and I think it keeps the back of the engine the same distance from the firewall.

muibubbles 12-23-12 09:45 AM

Thanks david! I think we'll modify it to make sure it fits the 20b as well =)

yoojeankim 12-24-12 04:06 PM

very interested :)

ZumSpeedRX-7 12-26-12 11:05 AM

Awesome stuff Ben! I am loving this and the flat door panel. Sincerely, thanks for giving back to the community.

I have fallen way behind on my FD and have some catching up to do (and I am sure the fiance would probably love to get some bits out of our apartment and into the car), but would be interested in these two items in the future.

No problems. Will be next week before I can measure. I've left the friendly confines of Asheville NC for a blizzard today with family in Cleveland OH. Lot's of snow coming down :)

gjosuem 12-26-12 12:37 PM

Does every 20b setup have the same position or a distance (tolerance) from firewall? Would it make more sense to have a standard cover and a 20b cover? Just saying . . .

BeanieTec 12-26-12 12:37 PM

Great idea, really interested in this piece also. Subscribed.

No, they all vary. The ones that use the RX7 Specialties/Pettit subframe would be one distance, the ones that use the Defined Autoworks another, and then there are the custom fab guys too. It's all over the place.

My guess is that my car which uses the Pettit subframe is very close to the stock 13B location but I will measure to find out. Since the car is at Steve Osley's shop, I can easily compare it to the 13B stock location.
