hid retrofit interest?

I have found a projector that fits into the small 7 inch housing but I only have a limited qauntity I can get a hold of. I am thinking of having the price at about 375 shipped to your door. Would anyone be interested? I don't have any pictures as of yet but I am trying to get some. Also if someone wants to be a tester give me a pm and I will give you a discounted price.

Do you have the dimensions for the housings? or more importantly have you fitted a set onto a first gen? I assume you already know but if not the first gens have very shallow headlight buckets which mean that anything deeper than a stock housing is pretty much unusable as was the case with SakeBombs projectors which IIRC came from a Miata.

I haven't tested it on one yet but I am pretty sure it will fit.

My buddy fit a set of "ARC" brand H4 HID bulbs in the headlight buckets on his SA.

The only problem was that he used a set of those H4 conversion "euro crystal" housings, which dont have any kind of diffuser or sheild to aim the light.
They were blinding.

What kind of housings are you planning to use with these?

I will be using a pilot automotive housing with a projector fitted inside of it. The projector is also bi-xenon so it will have high/low beams.

DrewGreenforest 09-01-11 07:57 PM

I always wanted a headlight that was clear and did not "pop-up". I also always wanted an "altezza" style tail lights. Always interested in lighting improvements.

Extremely interested. Post up some pics of fitment and we can go from there.

Shame neither of those would improve the lighting.

I almost got in on the pre-order just to see if they would fit. I'm glad I didn't!

I figured if anyone on the forum was interested in putting a kit together and had the means to do so, it would be SakeBomb.

Seeing as it has been 7 months since the OP posted, is it safe to say there is no group buy for these?
Have there been any other advancements in having a retrofit for 1st gens?

A real shame as this would have been great.

tapdatmac 03-09-12 12:15 AM

Let's see. You could always get a headlamp kit off eBay and get the proper H4 hi/lo hid kit. Then you can retrofit them yourself. I did it 2 years ago and it works great. Properly aimed and they are indistinguishable from modern cars halogen. Just brighter. Maybe you could retrofit some fd non pop up lights. I found some on amazon. Not to mention that the e ay route cost less than 100$ for me

hoang5659 03-09-12 10:10 AM

^^^ do you have a link or a write up on this? been looking for something like this for a while.

tapdatmac 10-26-12 09:46 AM

Sorry to bring the thread back from the dead. To do what I did and add HID to our cars, I bought some aftermarket eBay headlights (with Halo rings) and a HID retrofit H4 kit(can't remember brand). They have to be the Hi/Low kit. I don't think the other kits will work anyways. The Hi/Low kits come with a shield for the bottom so the light reflects out the top. This seemed weird to me but it makes it so you don't blind other drivers. In Hi mode the lights suck back in the housing and reflect all the way around the housing to light everything.

hoang5659 10-27-12 07:45 AM

can you provide links, product brands or sellers that i can search ebay for? i want to upgrade my head lights.

UniqueFc 11-21-12 10:33 AM
