JDM Engine World JDMNYC.COM

So i know there are a lot of horror stories about Jspec engines. heres a good one.

Just picked up a jspec engine from Jdm engine world, who is also
jdmengineworld2008 on eBay.

Jack, the boss or owner i dunno, was very helpful though out the whole process. s o was the sales guy but i cant remember his name, sanjay i think, sorry bro.

all of my questions were answered about the engine truthfully.

Pics and video of a comp test were sent to me a day after i asked for them, 12 hours or so. good response time.

shipping was fast. ordered the engine on thurs, received it today on tuesday.

same engine as pics and vid.

Checked comp. 120 psi on all faces.

checked other shit too and everything checks out. but im gonna eat dinner so im done typing.

will do business again, thanks guys!

Thanks for posting your experience, but keep in mind you won't know for sure until you get the engine in the car and running to be sure that the coolant o-rings and oil control rings are good. Sucks to hear, but it's still possible that engine is bad. Seen it many times out of JDM blocks.

Yeah that does suck to hear. I've heard of some people soaking their engine in ATF. How do I go about doing that? Jus fill the motor with ATF?

Now you got me thinking. The spark plugs did have some motor oil on them. Could that be from sitting, or possible oil control ring failure? Or is there no telling until I get it started?

Can't be sure until you run it. I've had several JDM engines over the years and never had any problems knock on wood :) It could be that whoever pulled the engine in Japan put some oil in there to keep things from corroding etc. Dont' sweat it too much!

I'm not sweatin it. Worst case scenario is that I'll have to tear it down and change those control rings or water seals. I'm just happy with the outstanding compression. At least the apex and side seals should be in good condition as well as the rotors and housings. No play in the turbo shaft and the fins seem to be in good condition.

There is some oil residue in the intake of the intercooler. Seems to be coming from the turbo, not much tho. Does that seem normal?

The oil also was black as night, probably never changed. Gonna try to complete this project within the next month so I'll keep this thread posted.

Also, would ATF swell the oil control rings possibly sealing them again?

Oil control rings are part of the rotor assembly,so ATF can't reach that..if it does then your engine is Fubarred .

What if I put it In the oil fill?

No..you don't understand.
Oil control rings can't be Fixed unless you replace them.

If you Put ATF in with the oil that is like putting Sand in with your gas.

I do understand. I know exactly what the oil control rings are and where they are located.

In theory, ATF swells up o-rings right? Just like in automatic transmissions. So it should do the same for a wore out dried up oil control ring.

I cant see how it would be like running sand in my engine. Im not talking about running the engine with the atf in it. Im talking about soaking the internals with it then draining it.

^That won't work for a number of reasons. I've torn down an engine that had bad oil rings due to being flooded with e85 fuel and being allowed to sit. The oil control o-rings swelled up, and didn't seal. So attempting to get them to swell doesn't seem like a good idea.

Also, if the metal oil control rings themselves are worn down enough, they will not seal properly. Only fix for that is to tear down the engine and replace.

Just clarifying that I dont know if theyre bad, this is all out of curiosity.

I believe e85 ethanol would be more similar to like a carb cleaner, and in that case I could see how it would deteriorate the rubber oil control rings.

I would think that e85 would stretch and thin the o rings rather than swell them up.

Wouldnt atf cause the rings to swell rather than break down? If atf caused o rings to break down, then why would it be used in an auto tranny with many o rings?

Just confirming that the engine is good.

Compression psi dropped about 10 after everything was all said and done, but it still hangin around 115 to 120.

Happy with the end result.
