yet another newbie asking broad questions
is there a particular year or model of rotary that is considered the best starting point?
Can you shoot me a link if there is already an old thread on this or if I overlooked a FAQ for the basics? I am hungry for info and not afraid to read, just not sure what will provide the good hits on search. TIA |
Basically for those not TOO familiar or experience with rotaries, it's better to start off with an NA model (non-turbo) Second Generation RX-7. This means 1986-1991 years. This is arguably the most reliable RX-7 made... I've seen some run over 300,000 miles, but that is rare.

I am more interested in finding which one has the either the most parts to making big power, or the least to throw away(having trouble wording that thought hmmm).

If you want one to make good power than the 1989-1991 TII versions are the best choice.

I am planning to swap a rotary into another brand of car, emmisions rules may dictate a 92 model engine, if I am forced to follow them. '3rd gen' means nothing to me as I am Mazda illiterate. reading on fc site there are many 13b variations. will have to research a ton :) |
A "3rd gen" is a 3rd generation RX-7 ('93-'95). The power plant is called the 13B-REW. All 3rd gens come with twin sequentially operated Hitachi HT-12 turbochargers. 255 fly wheel HP. You will also read people using the term "FD" to refer to a 3rd gen.
