yanking the engine

I have a 86N/A and a 87N/A...The 87 is rotted out but the motor was rebuilt not too long ago..What does it take to remove the engine? Do I need a speciale hoist/Stand..I hear a fit person could yank that beer keg out of there...Also will the 87 motor work in my 86 body?Do I need to change any wires over???

The 86 and 87 motors should swap out without changing any wires. An engine hoist is easier to pull the motor with but one or two strong people can lift it out. You can usually rent an engine hoist for pretty cheap. I rented one for $30. A stand is optional. I have a stand and I use it if I'm going to rebuild the motor, but to just pull a motor and not disassemble it, I would just sit it on a spare tire (the rubber tire with no rim) or remover the oil pan and sit it on a flat clean surface. Put a big piece of clean cardboard on the garage floor and sit the motor on that. It will sit flat if you remove the oil pan and the oil pickup tube.

thanks for the engine info,I was in a front end wreck with my 86n/a..I found a parts car a 87 that had lost most of it's body to rot..The engine in the 87 is a non factory rebuild..For $600 I got 2 good fenders,2half good doors,A hood, with 1 stripped out bolt hole "how can I fix that? And the engine...I'm having alot of trouble getting the front bumper cover back on,Stuff is still alittle bent in the front end..I need the hood dimensions and front end measurments for that body..

To fix a stripped out bolt hole, you need a tap. Find out what size bolt (diameter and thread pitch) goes in the hole, the get that same size tap and screw the tap into the hole. The tap will re-thread the hole for you.

You would take to pretty damn tough guys to pull a motor without a hoist. It may only weigh around 150lbs but the angle you are leaning in the engine bay to grab it makes it nearly impossible to get any kind of leverage on. Definately worth getting the hoist. You can buy one for well below $200, I never rented one but that sounds like it should be pretty cheap too.

For the stripped bolt go to your local Sears or other tool seller and ask about EZ-Out. You will then need a tap of the correct size as was already mentioned.
