Wiring Harness Help!

1 Attachment(s)
So myself and a couple buddies went about pulling the motor today and found some interesting stuff. When removing the wiring from inside the car from the PowerFC, I found this:

What the hell happened here? On the end of my harness, I have the two yellow connectors and it appears the blue has been cut off. The other end under the dash looks equally horrible with butt connectors and wire nuts. I have no idea how this car started and ran as well as it did.

I'm in the process of purchasing a newish single turbo harness but I need to figure out what the hell is going on with the wiring in the car. Any ideas?

I've downloaded the wiring diagrams and I'll be going wire by wire until I figure it out, just thought I'd pick the forum's brain for a possible leg up.

Thanks all!

Mike

That is what you get for buying a car with an aftermarket Ecu in it.
you never know what the previous owners capabilities are,and if they did the wiring correctly.
Once you buy the car you inherit everything that they may have done wrong.
Nobody can answer that mess...That is like psychedelic spaghetti.

After some research last night I figured out the problem.

Car has USDM harness.

Guy installs JDM motor with JDM harness

Guy goes to modify the X05 connector.

Guy ignores the zillion threads on here about how to do that.

Guy cuts off 10 pin blue connector and 12 pin blue connector.

Proceeds to butt connect everything together.

Punches self in face.

Now, hopefully I can source a connector from somewhere, otherwise I'll have to change the new harness side as well.

Nothing that can't be undone, but what a dum dum in the first place.

I congratulate you on your persistence.
I keep saying I will not buy another car after "this one".
BUT I still have "that one" plus I get new ones and put them in my garage!
The only thing I do try to stay away from though is highly modified cars.I prefer Screwing the mods up myself!,Not having to figure out someone else's Snafu.
Good luck to ya,sounds like you kicked ass!

Yeah, it won't be as bad as I thought initially. Anything can be fixed, it's just the cost and time involved coupled with the general WTFWEREYOUTHINKING thing.

Now I'm on the hunt for an OEM connector and coming up dry. Maybe I'll just have to use a 10pin universal connector and change both ends. Crap.

Holy hell. Some people just shouldn't touch wires. It looks like best buy installed your ecu. Lol

Rywire : Mil-spec Tucked 13B harness (FD3S/Rx7) - $649.00

An option.

That thought makes me shudder.
Sort of like turning the key and instead of hearing the Engine go "Brapp",it would be a looped soundtrack of Barry Manilow Trying to do rap music!.
....ah said...ah said..I can't smile..smile...with outcha..with outcha..Break it down.....!!!

So I'm at the point where I need to repair the connector in the car. Is there any way to find a 10-pin connector like the OEM? I'll replace both the male/female with another connector type all together if I have to, that's no big deal. Tough part is finding something compatible and a place who doesn't want you to order in lots of 1000. Anyone run into a similar issue once upon a time?

Post a pic of the connector here.
Also post a pic in your Classified section and ask to buy one.
You may get lucky.

You need to white connector in the picture? PM me.

BeanieTec 01-21-13 01:10 PM

I believe the connector is blue. X05 connector. There are two yellow's going into the ECU and the blue connects to the body harness where it comes through the footwell.

I would post a picture of the connector, but I'll have to scavenge a pic of someone's harness here.

I'll post in the classifieds as well.
