Winter Storage for Rotary
 

This is the first winter I have had my 88 RX7 vert. I live in MN so no driving for several months. I plan on starting car and letting run for 30 mintues or so every month to get warmed up good. I put stabilizer in gas. I wondered if this was the best plan or should I just pull battery and leave car alone. I'm not sure what is the best for the rotary engine. Thoughts? PJ Drew

it's really up to you, what you do. if you're starting every month - that's fine.

if you let it sit, my only advice would be to put some gear oil in the combustion chamber (1 to 1.5 teaspoons each) and rotate the motor by hand through a few revolutions. disconnect the battery and take it out the car.

Put the car on jack stands (if you can) so that your tires dont flat spot.

I would just hook the batt up to one of those charger things. There are ones out there that are meant to maintain that batt, not neccessarily emergency charge it.

Just an additional note to sunshine's comment about putting the car on jack stands: It is best to put the jackstands on the suspension components rather than on the unibody. The shocks piston rods can become pitted/damaged from being extended (exposed) for a long period of time over the winter. This may be of concern in MN. I know that it is here in NY.
