why my exhaust manifold glow red?

Hey I just installed my jet-hot 2000 coating on my downpipe and exhasut manifold and put back everything together good. Anyhow tonite will be the 4th time since I start it up but never pay attention close to my exhaust manfold until tonite. Anyway after I start it tonite it ran like for 10 min with around 1800-2000 rpm but after it drop to 1200 and the car sound like it's burning rich because it was idleing weir than I gave it some gas and it start to backfire= burning rich. Anyhow it stop burning rich and I took a peak into the hood to make everything is good and I noticed my exhaust manifold was glowing red and it stop? any reason y it was glowing red? also I permanent removed my double throttle body controlled system and the secondary butterfly. sorry for this to be long.thanks

Well I can give a shot at it, but i believe your right, its running to rich. I've been working for my step father for over 3 yrs. at his exhaust shop and whenever the exhaust system is discolored or is red or is EXTREMELY hot, then you've got a fuel problem you need to take car of. By the way, better get it fixed pretty quick or you're gonna need another cat. Anyone around the dallas area, he's been doing this for over 30 yrs. he know's his shit. so com'on down, you're the next contestant

Did you jethot the inside of your downpipe? Think it flaked off and clogged your cat?

May not be a big problem

It doesn't take too much temperature to get cast iron glowing. The colder it is outside, the less temp it seems to take to make the glow appear.

IIRC, Approx 800deg C, or 1472deg F should let it start to glow. That's up there in temp, but mine does it quite often.

Retarded timing can be one partial cause. I know it's the main culprit in my car. Then again, I have pretty much no emmissions so I'm not breaking anything.
