Why does an FD redline higher than an S5 T2?
S5 T2 redlines at 7000, does it not? Why does an FD redline higher? I thought they had the same short block.

because the FD actaully makes power past 7k
|
yes but is this because of the turbos or what? The s6 has the same ports, rotors, etc basically right?

13B-REW is built better.
It has tighter tolerances. It runs at a higher oil pressure. It has deeper / better bearings. It has better internal coatings. Yes, it does have bigger ports. -Ted |
But most importantly, you have enough turbo to move enough air to continue to make power on top end on the FD, while the s5 turbo bleeds (loses) boost on top end in stock form. And the FD intake manifolds and ports flow better than the FC ones.
Ted, what "tighter tolerances" do FD blocks run compared to FCs? All the internal clearances are equivalent between the 2. True, the castings on the FD are stronger, but that has nothing to do with tolerances. The coating on the FD rotorhousings was for longer life, and would have no impact on structural integrity. Same for the coating on the tips of the FD rotors that supposedly allowed less apex slot wear. Bearings and oil pressure are improved, but the FC oiling system is hardly inadequate for 8krpm anyway. |

There's like a dozen part numbers! How many does the FC 13BT have? Two! One = 0, and the other one is oversized like 0.005" or something like that. -Ted |
By your post I assumed you meant seal clearances or something along those lines.
But we have already touched on the oiling system and it is generally agreed that the stock FC oiling system is more than adequate for 8 grand. I normally see more bearing wear on FD's than I do on FC's despite the more advanced setup, especially when you figure that FC's have more miles on them. |
Yeah, sorry, my wording was a bit confusing. :(
You're right. The clearances for the sides seals, corner seals, apex seals, etc. are identical. -Ted |
Does the turbo Fc have hardened stationary gears like the Fd?

Kouki FC turbo's come with ion-nitrided stat gears and rotor gears.
I *think* the FD comes with a better coating / hardening. Yes, both are "hardened". The FD set are "better" hardened. -Ted |
