where is your timing set at?

just wondering what most S4 guys set their timing to? how will advance or retarded timing effect cold start up VS. over all top end revs?

im mostly a diesel guy so forgive the dumb question. diesels timing mostly resides in the fueling, not the ignition so im learning.

Are your running the stock ECU? Looking at your signature, your engine is not in the stock frame. If you are using the stock ECU, then set it to the stock 5 ATDC with the set connector jumped, then the rest is taken care of. If you are using a standalone ECU, then best to take to a tuner. I am using a standalone, and I am using 8 BTDC during cranking and about 4 BTDC at idle, then off idle it is pretty much a copy of the S4 turbo timing map, it is conservative though.

I have not had my truck on a dyno though, just road tuning, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I don't believe he has an ECU, pretty sure he has it setup old skool

When it comes to old school v8s with a dizzy i put it where the engine seems to like it the most at all RPM ranges, when you snap the throttle it should be right there, no hiccups, BUT, this depends on carb tuning too

^^ sorry, i should have said.... its a 6 port but with a custom intake and 500cfm carb running an old style dizzy.

^i suppose your right. it may be a trial and error type thing to tune with my set up.

Oh, in that case then, ignore my post. I saw 6-port, and thought EFI. Would the timing not be much different than that of a 12A?
