where should my idle be?

Hey my 87 N/A wont idle and if you drope the rpm's past 1000 it will die, what should I do about this and where should it be idleling?

It should idle at 750rpm's in neutral. That's right between 0 and 1k I think (that gauge is confusing).

If it won't idle, check all the sensors and make sure they're all connected. The ones to check are the BACV (Bypass Air Control Valve), AWS (Accelerated Warup Solenoid), air-temp sensor on the plenum, water temp sensor on the water pump housing, Boost (pressure) sensor on the passenger-side strut tower, and the AFM (Air Flow Meter) underneath the air box. Make sure all 9 vacuum hoses are connected (10 hoses of you have cruise control). Make sure the TPS (Throttle-Position Sensor) is adjusted correctly.

Personally, I'd make sure your BACV is working correctly. That, and make sure the AWS is hooked-up properly and hooked into the plastic intake tube (connects the AFM to the Throttle Body). Heck, while you're at it, check ALL the sensors with a multimeter.

Hope this helps,

Matt
