Whats More Efficient...tmic or fmic

Which is the better working choice between a front mount intercooler or top mount intercooler?

n.taluckder 03-15-12 10:16 PM

tmic if your running stock turbo, fmic otherwise bth the jdm s5 is the most eficient of all stcok tmic's

audoetuk 03-16-12 12:57 PM

I read tmic is better bc its shorter piping so less lag

misterstyx69 03-17-12 12:55 AM

Ya but you can only run so much intercooler on top of the engine.
You can put a massive intercooler out front or run a Vmount that would be more efficient than the top mount..Also with the Different turbos out there Lag is not really a problem.

Yea I mean vmount

I too am looking to do a V-Mount. What is a good V-mount kit? Has anyone done the Greddy one? The new HKS one looks massive. But the prices are a bit high on those kits. I figured that the V-mounts are good for cars that are in hot areas like Texas.

Rotary-works.com has a good one

I'd go fmic and take the better cooling than the top mount that's sitting right on top of the engine.

anees 03-27-12 10:04 PM

again alll these intercoolers are good for diff setup
smic is good for daily and minor tracking here and there
v mount.. serious track stuff
fmic.. if u drag ur car and want to push big numbers

audoetuk 03-27-12 11:34 PM

O aiight, then vmic should be more than good for street/track

This thread is really elementary/misinformed. This is all also covered extensively elsewhere.

Bottom line: V-mount if engineered properly is the most effective solution. the problem is this involves a significant amount of engineering/ducting/routing to get the air flow to the radiator and intercooler correct.

FMIC: simple and effective. Cons: decreased effectiveness of radiator and longer tubing

TMIC: crap. Heatsoak FTL. Stock piping is inefficient.

Well I don't know if you have the same experience using the search here, i get threads that gave my topics words a good one time & don't really have what I look for so I jus ask my own questions...good info

water to air, given you properly size your heat exchanger.

Between this site, google, and miataturbo.net I have taught myself almost everything there is to know about being a car enthusiast. What are you searching for? You want to find just general intercooler theory talk.

I promise you the guide lines I laid out are GENERALLY spot on.

would a vented hood on a stock TMIC be beneficial?

Properly placed, vents are always helpful. How are you going to get airflow through the IC if it is directly on top of engine? Isn't that why the turbos have a scoop?

RotaryRocket88 04-13-12 11:54 AM

TMIC + water/meth injection or no intercooler + lots of water/meth injection are options too.
