what to use to clean oil blow through ?
hey guys this is my first post here, me and a friend are trying to rebuild his 94' rx7
We think his apex seals never got seated from the last rebuild done by a so-called professional mechanic. The problem is hella oil blow through, when we pulled the turbos, intercooler and intake pipes all are coated with oil. and he is burning more oil than gas! What is the best thing to use to clean out the oil? I am new into rx7's so I'm not sure if I will harm anything by just sprayng parts cleaner around everywhere. thanks |
If you have heavy oil all over everything in the intake, I'd suspect worn out turbos are leaking oil into the intake air. So you need to check into that.
As for cleaning, you can use pretty much whatever... Popular choices are paper towels to wipe everything down... mineral spirits to wipe stuff off with... kerosene or gasoline in the intercooler to swish around to clean the passages (make sure you let it dry out plenty good!)... Brian |
Last time I had my intake all pulled out I just washed it out with soapy water. I think I used dish soap then just sprayed it out really good with the garden hose. dumped the water out and stuck it back together. No need to worry about anything blowing up like with gas or kerosene, water is generally safe.
edit: Forgot to add, I agree with wargasm that the problem is probably turbos wearing out if the oil coating is excessive, a thin layer of oil is pretty normal but you shouldnt have a puddle in the IC. |
