hey all

i bought a turbo for $AUD 50, it has a blown seal hence the really cheap price
i am not planning to rebuild it as i already have a big enuf turbo on my rx7..
but this one looks massive. i was planning to take it apart, just to familiarize myself with internals and hopefully learn something useful.
but i am quite fascianted to know some info about it, eg wheel sizes etc, hp output.
i was thinking mayeb i could onsell it to earn some $$ but would also like to take it apart, so either one is cool with me.
it looks huge! .. ive attached a pic and will post more up when i pick it up

any info will be good :)

Not very big. Will need to measure the turbine size for us to even guess.

Its not physically small  Look at the size of the cell phone next to it.

I'm not sure is this is the answer...but the picture filename is "Garrett M24".

most garrets have that casting number. It tells you nothing about the "size" of the turbine. You need to pull the compressor cover off, and measure the compressor wheel at its widest part (exducer aka major) and at its smallest part (inducer aka minor). These dimensions can then be compared against normal charts to find out what wheel size you have, then you can look up its compressor map to find out what the compressor seciton is capable of doing.

the same must be done for the exhaust wheel but the terms/names are opposite of the compressor. hence the big side is called the (inducer aka major) and the small side is the (exducer aka minor). once you have both sets of dimensions you will be able to get the rest of the data from the internet or the forum, but until you have measured the wheels anything that anybody says is just a guess. (unless the original seller chimes in).

Well from what i can see in the compressor housing it says SCANDIA, which is a company which is out of sweden i believe. Anyway they make heavy trucks, buses, industrial and marine engines. So im guessing that your turbo can off one of there diesel buses, most like similar to a holset, KKK, or schwitzer.
