What should I do with this sensor?
I removed my power steering pump this morning, and I unscrewed the sensor from the bottom of it. I did the ATF treatment at the same time, so I won't be driving my car until tomorrow, but I'm wondering if the ECU will be beeping at me the next time I drive it.
Can I just cut the sensor wire and ground it or what? Right now the sensor is attached to the bracket with a zip tie. What should I do with it? Thanks. |
I don't know man...but I am curious too, cause my P/S pump is coming off this weekend probably.

Thanks to mazdaspeed7, I found out that you can disconnect the sensor. If you follow the wire down to the harness, there's a little circular connector. I unhooked it, and everything's fine.

Listen, the gear box is designed to be run with fluid in it. The power steering fluid is part of the system.
A non-power steering box is an ENTIRELY different system. It DOESN'T NEED the fluid. If you want to remove the power steering, swap in a manual gearbox. Your power steering box will have a hard time otherwise. Plus the ratios are different. A non-ps car is easier in a parking lot because it takes more turns lock to lock. The ps box expects the assistance of the hydraulic box so it would be a real muscle-bounder with it. |
I know all of this, but it works just fine leaving the P/S box in, and it's a whole lot less work. I have had it disconnected for a year, and it isn't showing any bad signs. Jef Card also had his P/S pump removed for over a year, and he didn't have any problems. I like it the way I have it now. Thanks.
