What happens when a Rotary overheats?
 

Ok, my girlfriend has a Turbo II that keeps leaking coolant from the rear of the engine right below the intercooler. And I was wondering what happens when a rotary engine overheats? Does it burn up the o-rings in the engine or what? I know what could happen if a piston engine overheats, just not a rotary. Thanks.

The rotor housings can warp, The coolent seals also take a dump.

it means that soon you are goin to find another t2 engine.

The leak is probably the TB coolant line.

The housings warp when it overheats and that leads to bad o-rings.

what should you do when you keep your eye on the temp and its starting to climb and doesnt seem to stop?

should you pull over and shut it off to let it cool immediately? (basically what im getting at is, can it take the above operating temperatures for very long before damage occurs?)

up to what temp can u run a s6 rotary engine without causing damage ?

ive had mine go up to 115-120 degrees celsius water temp because the fan was accidently switched off. then i drove with the heater on in 5th gear at 2000 rpm for a while and then let it idle and sprayed the i/c, radiator and oil cooler with water and the fan on and a household fan aswell, then turned it off when it got down to 74 degrees. i was worried afterwards, but it seems to be fine now months after.

how often do you guys use it, and how do you use it?

(i only read an article about its function, i have never seen the product nor did the article state how to use it)

Water wetter is a substance that you add to your rad fluid and it actually helps to drop the overall temps of your car down a noticeable amount. As for how to use it, just buy some and read the bottle it will tell you how much to put in.

bugger, I just went in a burnout comp here in my home town in my Cosmo, within less than 3 minutes my temps got hi, I saw the gauge at 3/4 and within 10-15 seconds hit 1 line below red (digital dash) so i called it quites and backed off (actaul decided at 3/4 to turn around and leave but ended up facing the wrong way so went to spin around again when i noticed the gauge), two seconds after backing off...BANG, blew a 8" x 2" strip out of the top o the radiator.

Now i hope the engine in OK, it was only hot for a very short amount of time, the engine starts fine first time as usual so this is a good sign right? (never owned an over heated rotor before :)
Waiting to find a solution to my forked radiator as I can't seem to get a new top tank then will know for sure if there is any damage I guess.

Ok my car has overheated where the cap above the thermostat houseing popped off and it just started steaming from there. I replaced the thermostat it was still good and its not leaking from the waterpump what else can it be because I have no clue? Also what can I check or how can I check to see what else is wrong with it?
