What EMS should I get??? (2nd gen TII) with mods
 

I have a T4 turbo, 3" Bonez downpipe, 3" Corksport exhaust, Atkins rebuild w/ 3mm Apex seals, Full Race port, Stock Intercooler, Greddy Type S BOV, stock injectors.....
It takes 4 or 5 tries to get the car to keep fuel pressure after cold start, Idles horribly but at around 1000rpm :) and is horrible on gas....

I know this is probably a common question but I really need help cuz I just moved and dont really trust anyone that doesnt own a Rotary ;)

Ive read a few articles on several different EMS systems and have been told way to many different stories on the Haltech system...I wana know if I can really get it and how??

I believe EMS's are pretty much the same given a good tuner. so just like Reted said, get whatever one you can get tuned locally. you should prolly ask around on the nw forum, I know there was a guy in cali giving free tuning, but that's not exactly 'local'.

If it were me I would go with a haltech E6k. They seem to be tried & true on the rotary.

I had a good experience with a shop on the eastside called FAME Automotive, but I'm not sure which EMSs the techs have exp with. Regardless the guy I dealt with was a whiz and could probably figure any of them out in short order. They're the only ones I know of around with a load-cell dyno. May be worth a shot.

I don't think your idle is going to get much better with that port job. And I would be ultra careful with that setup, i.e. low boost. Stock injectors and IC seems dangerous with a TO4.

Thanx Heff, Im also looking at the Power FC and a few others including a wideband combined....I lowered my boost to 6lbs and rarely bring it above 5000rpm now....
I really hope to find someone to help me out with this....EMS is a whole new thing to me....I know Hondata combined w/ wideband cuz I used to be a Honda freak...
But I really want to control my power the correct way

if you get a haltech, find a used e6k, rather than going with the newer e6x.

pfc= piece of fuckin crap! almost impossible to tune in a timely mannor unless you have a datalogit. and it reuses the almost always delapitated stock harness.

microtech's are kinda bare bones, but wire up in a day and tune really quickly.

So you dont recommend a Microtech?? If you look at my mods and realize I really need to control my fuel cuz my port is so large and I have a larger turbo.. I need something that I can learn to tune myself in time and is fairly available in the U.S.

If I cant find something soon, I will be forced to put it to rest for the winter and spend my EMS fund on a cheap Honda to get around :(

for your situation, i might suggest a microtech just based on how fast they are to get going and how easy the install is.. they're relatively cheap to start out, although they nail you for extras like 3 bar map configuration, map sensor itself, laptop adapter, etc etc... IMO the haltech is cheaper--by the time you factor in all the extra crap you have to get to make them work for you.

but the e6k's are hard to find now, so unless you get lucky and find a used one, you might be stuck with the e6x.

what i'd REALLY suggest doing is downloading the haltech software, and a base map from hitman or wherever and just play with it so you can familiarise yourself with the user interface. that might help you decide which way to go.

you can download the microtech software, but you can't load a map up unless it's plugged into a car--suck.

Ive called Rotarypower in California and Chad seems to be pretty trustworthy...Im gonna check with my friend Will Rodriguez who built most of my car..He races for Reactive/Autodemics, he also recommended the Haltech, but he recommends the E6k rather than the E6X..All in all hopefully Ill end up with one of the 2 and solve my fuel problem here shortly

i think we all recommend the k, but i've got the x to work on all 3 of the cars i've tried it on, so it can be done if you can't find a k.

Why is the E6x harder to work with or wire than the E6k? I am also in the same sort of position. I want to upgrade turbo but need the standalone to do it right.
