what dose this do switching actuator?
 
Hi

I have an 87 t2 and I just installed new vacuum lines (car still will not idle) so i took it to my shop and the machanic didn't know what the heck this thing is so i look it up on my factory service manual and its called a switching actuator dose anyone know what this dose? I'm blocking off all my emissions crap do i really need this part or can i just take if off? thanks

When functional, it spools the turbo up quicker at low rpms. It varies the exaust passage to the turbo. At low rpms it partialy blocks the passage to get the velocity up. At approx 2700 rpm it opens the exaust passage to the turbo fully.

If the twin scroll solenoid for it is not functional, it will spring to the full open position and stay there.
