What Do You Use To Change Your Trans/rear Fluid?

do you use a pump? if yes.. what kind?

I ran a hose from the engine bay last time.. man.. that took sooooooo long!!! just want to know what are the alternatives...

btw... do you need to add fluid in the shifter area?

TIA

Yes you need to add fluid in the shifter area.

To change my fluid, I use a plastic bottle that came with my Mityvac kit. It's an airtight plastic bottle with two openings on top. One just passes through to the top, and one has a rubber pipe that goes down to the bottom. So what I do is fill it up with tranny juice, then put the end that goes to the bottom up into the tranny fill hole. Now, I apply about 15 PSI (not too much!!) of pressure to the hose on the other fitting using my air compressor.

This puts 15 PSI on the surface of the fluid, which pushes it out through the other hole. Anyhow, it work great!

The other alternative is a $5 pump available at the local parts store. It just screws to the top of the gear lube bottle and has a hose that feeds to the transmission or rear end. You have to pump it about 1000 times to fill the transmission but it is better than running a hose to the engine bay. This pump can typically be found pretty close to where you find the gear lube.

Thanks for the input... how much do i need to add in the shifter area?

I never heard of adding fluid to the shifter area. Maybe some cars there is a passage way for the oil to get into the transmission through the shifter?

I used the $4 pump too for my ATF change. It took a while but it wasn't too bad considering that I didn't have to crawl under the car.

Yes you can add transmission oil trough the shifter area
I have done it
what i dont know is , How to check If i need more after a while

The oil in the shifter is only for the shifter itself and does NOT migrate into the transmission.

You only fill the shifter if the shifter housing has been removed/drained. Has anyone tried to fill the tranny thru shifter?

I change mine with my marine oil pump for my boat. Basically, a hose attached to a plastic pump and drain it.

Fill it when the car is on level ground with the pump that screws onto the lid of the gear oil lid, found at schucks for 3dollars. Fill it unitl it begins to start coming back out the hole, then cap it with the screw. This is what I did. worked great. Took a little bit of time though, pump is very sluggish.
