What am I doing wrong?

Hey, guys. So here's the situation. I own a 1989 fc vert n/a auto trans. I've had it for about a month. Love the car other than the issues I've been having lately. The main concern I have right now is this:
1. The car runs great when the Check Engine Light (CEL) isn't present on the dash
2. If the CEL is on, I can gradually rev the car to 3k+ rpm with no hesitation
3. If the CEL is on, if I use what seems like more than 25% throttle, the revving gets really choppy and sputters or seems like it's leaning out and getting ready to die
4. The CEL isn't always on. If it's not on, it still feels underpowered for what it is. Won't do brake stands or anything of that nature. Seems like it's laggy.
5. The idle will some times flutter.
From what I've been reading over the month, it appears to be my TPS. I know there's write ups on this, but none seem to be a benefit yet. Can someone give a detailed process of how to fix this problem or input on what's happening? I'd like to be able to at least turn the tire over with brakes fully applied (not trying to destroy the car, but it's a good sign for me if it can). Willing to test any and everything to see if I can fix it.

Search how to check for codes on the ECU and get the CEL issue sorted.
An NA auto will struggle to turn the tyre without water or cornering.
Get a manual do skids

I know how to test for codes. I had two for tps. Trying to figure out how to properly adjust it.
