Warm engine starting problems
 

I have a "new" '88 13B (w/153K miles) that starts fine when it's cold, but doesn't want to restart after it warms up. The first time it happened, I figured I had flooded it and went through the unflooding process, to no avail. The next morning, it started fine. The second time it wouldn't start, same story - unflooding did nothing, but next morning it was fine. The third time, I wasn't at home, so leaving it till morning wasn't an option. I didn't try unflooding, but I was heading downhill and I was able to get it started by popping the clutch. Any suggestions as to what might cause this bad starting behavior? Plugs? Wires? Some sensor?

Starter Solenoid

If it was the solenoid, wouldn't the starter just whine and not engage the engine? The engine was turning over and over and over, but it just wouldn't start. Both times, it started right up the next morning within the first second.

Would a flooded car be able to be started by getting it rolling and popping the clutch, or would it have to be "unflooded" first?

tps maybe??? mine is the tps, doesnt want to run when the engine is considered warmedup, which gives mea bout 20 min of driving time before it starts acting up

Yes, you can start a flooded car by tow starting it without unflooding it first. Just engage your car in 2nd gear and have someone tow it. You don't need to press the clutch in unless you're tires aren't getting any traction.

Another trick which took me a while to find through the SEARCH function is to:
1. Step on the gas fully gas before cranking the engine
2. While cranking the engine, gradually release the gas pedal until the engine fires up

This method works for me every time when I want to start the car when it is warm.
