Wanting to put a Rotary Engine in a 96' Dodge Neon, will it fit?
 

I wanna put a lighter engine in my 96' Dodge Neon Highline, I know most of you are like, "WTF? Why would you wanna put it in a Neon, just get an RX7." It is the car i have atm and its fully mine and i wanna put a Rotary in it cause they give raw power and a much lighter weight and less moving parts then the conventional Combustion Engine. So does anyone know if there is a way i can make it fit and work? Im wouldnt say it would work with a FWD car first off, but maybe :) if not i guess i can just save up and snag a nice FC on here. I have wanted one for a while but i dont have the place to store it while fixing it up if i bought a roller, cause i would wanna do a 13BTT engine in a nice Turbo II. I know i would have to make a custom made Drivetrain for it to work but i have heard it works nicely with the Turbo II Tranny moreso then the FD Tranny. But back to my original question... Any thoughts?

can it be done? of course it can. I've never seen or heard of a rotary Neon and unless someone on the board has done it already, I doubt you'll find much support to help you through it. so count on skating uphill ... and on your own.

you're right about most people being like ... :confused: WTF?!?!? (myself included) and there's a reason for that. it's because it's pretty pointless. if you want a performance Neon just stick with the SRT4 parts and work on maker the car lighter. by the time you'd be finished putting a rotary in it, you'll have spent countless dollars and bloody well re-engineered the 80% of the car - money for at least 2 lightly modded T2s.

you also need to do more research on the Rx-7 stuff because unless you absolutely go out of your way to have custom parts made for the sake of telling people "I have custom ....", there's no need to have custom driveline components. stock Rx-7 stuff does just fine.

The only reason i said it had to be custom made was cause thas wat someone told me that had to be done to use a 13BTT FD engine in a FC with the Turbo II Tranny since he said the end of the drive train wont work so i had to get the one compatible for the Turbo II Tranny. He said the Turbo II tranny uses a Push Clutch and the FD Tranny has a Pull Clutch. Also do you know how long it would take roughly to do that conversion and if there is a lot of work to get it done?

The rotary Neon was just a thought anyways lol i didnt really wanna 100% do it i was just honestly wanting to know if i could be done lol

well, no need to go into all the details here. if or when you get a T2, then there's good support to help you with the REW transplant or whatever you plan. suffice it to say, you don't need the tranny from the Gen III. get the needed engine mounts, use the T2 clutch and bolt the REW to your T2. wire. tune. done. there's no way I could tell you how long it would take to do it because that's totally up to you and your resources.

anything can be done you just need money and time putting a rotary on a fwd tranny just sounds like a plain in the ass you would need a lot of customs parts to just make that work. if your looking at getting into the rotary game then buy a rx7 and play with it they are cheap and very fun to drive keep your neon stock for a driver and have the rx7 for something to play with. asking us if you can put a rotary in your car isnt something we do we fix are cars that came with it and have fun.

Fits great if you take the trunk lid off...other than that,I wouldn't bother..its a Neon..(eewwww!)

You can swap these engine as you had said here, it just take some modification in your automobile body part to install a Rotary engine in your 96 Dodge. While swapping it will be better that, you take some mechanic or Dodge engineer supervision and help to make successful swap.
