Unique Carb setup's
 
Hello,

For anyone out there who has strayed away from the typical carb's always seen (Weber, Delorto, Hollley, Niki,) please post what you got...

I plan on running a motorcraft 2100 (the 1.21 normaly for the 351 windsor) with a fully custom made stainless steel intake. I've ran it briefly with a racing beat intake and it idled nicley and had good response, but I still need to do a full run...

This is all going in a 64' Vw beetle, so check me out to see what happens.

i used to run a pair of HIF 7 SU's as draw through on a wray ( vane slat ) supercharger on a 13b over a decade ago
for a while i also had a long upper manifold to run them directly onto a weber manifold for times the S/C was being overhauled

they worked well with the S/C but slow to respond to throttle inputs when used NA
( but surprisingly had higher torque at low revs than the other carb options )

they are a quirky carb,, a black art all to themselves ( constant depression, variable venturi )
and things like throttle response come from playing the weight of the oil in the piston hat
i wouldn't recommend them for NA purpose

but they would be much better when in blow through mode than modding a fixed venturi carb

Im pretty sure your manifold was why the torque curve was higher NA... but i could be mistaken :)


Im hoping more people contribute to this thread. I have the typical haltech setup in one car and the RB holley set up in the other... but i would love to see what others are doing as an alternative... Keep posting :D

Update,

Switching to a Holley 390 CFM. not sure if it's going to work. The motorcraft seemed to run too rich??? I was getting red hot headers while just holding the engine (no load) at 3000 rpm. Also lot's of stumble. Don't have the time or money to fiddle with jetting it, so I found this 390 for a good price. Had lot's of head scratching moments with the Holley, but I got the problem ironed out. Now to adjust the vacuume secondaries and do some road test, hopefully...
