Twin oil coolers? - Widebody 1st gen S5 TII
 

Hey guys, reached the stage in my project where I am planning my cooling system and I was originally going with the traditional fb oil cooler under the rad, then decided to mount it I front the rad and opted for the bigger rad. The car is turbo and also will have AC.

But I was thinking that since I have a Mariah mode one widebody first gen and it's got these air scoops (designed/used usually for lights - which are illegal in my country as they aren't factory) I was thinking of using them for twin oil coolers?

The openings are approx 7.25" x 5.5" and I have been looking at the earls 19 row coolers which measure 8" x 5.75" x 2" with 10an fittings. I could easily fit a twin parallel setup and could even fit small fans on a thermo switch. I would run an oil thermostat and gauge to monitor it all to stay between 190-210* (hopefully)

I guess what I am asking has been asked (twin vs stock) but both sides have provided enough arguments to keep me guessing. But none of the examples were on a first gen as usually side mounts wouldn't make any sense, but I got these side ducts on my front bumper I think could be utilized. Here are some pics. The front bumper, I hope to mount the intercooler slanted like this to trap more air in the front air dam. Getting a 30"x10"x3" one.. Anyway Couple pics down I'll try to show the 3" pipes coming out behind the oil coolers.

I got a package that measures almost the exact size of the earls oil coolers I have been looking at and the factory fender/apron mount tabs would be the perfect counting point. I was thinking I could cut the bumper more for some space or to angle the oil coolers. I was think I could cut them more and flare them to fit even bigger oil coolers. This I think would be the real and practical solution.

I got the car with no engine and no cooling etc. So in either case I need to get an oil cooler and lines etc. I don't mind spending a more on the twin setup once it'll work. It'll look bad ass and utilize the bumper and free up some space (as I am installing AC as well). Thoughts please??

New mazda side seals & springs
FD bearings and stationary gears, oil pres reg

unless you just want to go with twin/dual cooler system, i would think simpler is better in this case. even when fairly BIG power is involved i can't say i come across many people complaining about oil temps with the stock Gen II coolers. i think you should start with that and see if it handles your needs.

Thanks for the advice. I think my biggest issue if going twin coolers is the size coolers I can fit. All the modded FD's etc usually have pretty big side coolers.
