turbo question

plz don't bask me for asking but can a stock non turbo 13b hold up to a small turbo setup if so how many psi can it handle? thanks for any info

from what i understand, i havnt looked into fc's since i bought my fd, there arent any aftermarket kits available. and to do it you need to remove the 5th and 6th port actuators to fit the turbo. im sure if you do manage to turbo it you will need some kind of fuel managment and bigger injectors.

its been done a few times. They have a few threads on NA engines turboed

yeah i have a stock vw passat 1.8 turbo sittin around and i thought it might be nice to give my SE some extra power.....i would probably build most of the kit myself anyway but what kind of fuel management would you recommend?

Mazdaracer4fun 05-06-08 02:29 AM

you will need to rebuild and definitely port both intake and exhaust ports to help get the boost and and out as fast as possible... but overall its cheaper, easier, and more reliable to just buy a turbo II or RE OR REW

If you are serious about doing it the easiest route would be to buy a stock t2 turbo and mani, some kind of carb set up, and get a carb hat built. After that its just exhaust, IC and piping, fuel system i.e. turn your delivery line into your return line and run a bigger delivery line, fuel pump, jetting for the carb, then plumb the oil and coolent lines for the turbo. I wouldn't run more than 5-6 psi and to do this you'll need to port the wastegate or get a different actuator. I'm sure you could run this set up for a while with no problem.

You should also have some mechanical back-round or else your just going to be in over your head.

thats what i say... most 6port turbo engines dont last very long

so pretty much it would be way easier to just save my money and do a t2 swap or some other swap (like a 2jz or rb26)

lol 2jz or rb26... youll be saving your money for a lonnnnnnnnnng time if your gonna go that route...

a t2 swap of the same series would be the recommended way to go...

RuffNReady 05-08-08 07:57 PM

well if i decide to go this route it isn't like i'm planing on doing it in a month or 2 if the feedback from you guys is that one of those motors would be in my best interest i would plan the cost carefully and obtain a rough draft of how long it will take to accumulate this amount of money.....how much one these swaps normally cost?

I'm doing a TII swap in my '88 vert I found an entire 87 TII car for $2000 shipped to my door. I'll have about $2000 to $2500 in additional upgrades, racing beat exhaust, upgraded turbo/fuel system, fmic, and engine mgmt system. I probably could have bought a car cheaper, but hey, I'm having some fun with it and I'll know 100% whats been done to it. Have fun and good luck!!
