trouble removing crankshaft pulley bolt
OK i am trying to take rx8 engine apart...damn crankshaft pulley bolt on a rx8 motor wont move a mm ... with 1000 ft mac impact gun.... any suggestions
Heat it up first real good with map gas.
i did try that ....i was bit scared to heat it too much...so i only heated it for about a 1m or so..will give it another try
I had a similar issue and i ended up cutting the nut to take it out. if you are going to do that, BE VERY CAREFUL of the crank as you can easily cut it too
i gave it a go today...heated it up with map gas for about 5min 2 times and nothing...i dint think cutting would be an option but i thought about it as i was getting frustrated and was thinking about taking the torch to it and melting it ... how did you get the remaining part of the bolt out...did you drill it out was the shaft usable after.... i will try to look for stronger impact gun for now... but i just might have to cut it

Breaker bar + a cheater bar and a flywheel stopper of course.

Goemon=you Weirdo=E-shaft pulley bolt Solution: Blow on a conch shell to call IMPACT!!!! This is proof that a giant robot can solve any problem  Sorry, couldn't resist the pun humor. I love that N64 game. Drilling should never be necessary as you'll ruin the E-shaft by never being able to set the end play again (requires fully assembled & torqued front stack). Heat plus impact should do the trick. If in doubt, Aaron Cake probably has the answer. |
Prop the breaker bar against the ground or the frame rail and bump the starter. Just keep clear!
Heat the nut with a torch until its cherry red, it will then burn off the locktite and come off with ease
Do not cut off!! Screw that impact gun shit. Heat it up real good and use a good breaker bar with a pipe on it. If my 120lb ass was able to get off im sure you can. And when your done rebuilding that motor make sure you reflash ecu.

I am taking it to the shop and will heat it up with torch ....got nice braker bar ready for it ...
after heating it with torch to cherry red...it cam out with the impact gun with no problems
small torch with map gas and oxygen mix didn't work so far this i must say it had to be the most stubborn pulley bolt i head to take out |
yep, map gas is hit or miss. my oxy acetalyne torch never fails though.
