I'm not sure, but I think that could be a bad torque converter.

Check the fluid.
With the car running, hold the brake and shift from park through each gear and then put it back in park. Pull the dipstick, wipe, reinsert, remove and read the level. Then go check it again. ATF does everything in your transmission. It acts as a lubricant, a coolant, and as a hydraulic fluid. Low fluid will cause wierd things to happen. |
/\ Good point.

I have a 5 speeds, always, but I have heard of autos having tranny filters. Does Mazda's?
In the past on my little brothers Volvo, the tranny wouldn't shift right and was making rattling noises. A mech told him to change the filter and fluid to see if that helps. Both the nosies and shifting issues went away after that. If the autos have a fliter, try changing that too. |
alright thanks ill try that

My Mercury Sable did that too. Well... it would kick into neutral then not shift into the next gear (serious redline).
What to do: change your car to a 5 speed. You're wasting the car with that auto tranny in there. |
