Tracking Engine Numbers

Hi guys,

I'm trying to trace an engine number, I've tried speaking to Mazda Customer Services but obviously they weren't able to help without a chassis number, which I don't have.

Here's the story...

I'm building a Lotus 7 type kit car using a 13B. To get the thing registered I need to give proof of the capacity and age of the engine for the emissions test and stuff like that (otherwise I get lumbered trying to get an '86 engine through todays emmissions tests and need a CAT etc... :( ). I have the engine number, but not the chassis number from the car it was releived before being crushed!

Now, I know its 1308cc and was build in 1986 but I need some official docs for it...

Any advice greatfully received.

Cheers.

By chassis number do you mean VIN number? I have an 86 GXL. It doesn't have the original motor in it so I'll give you my VIN if it will help. Will the motor vehicle department check to see if the engine number matches up to the VIN from Mazdas manufactuering plant? PM me and we can talk more. And post pics of your project car, it sounds bad ass.

are you building a LOCOST 7? Are you using the stock book measurements?

Project84, yep chassis number=VIN. Would you mind me taking that to a mazda dealer and asking for the details of the car? Not sure what they can give me but it'd be a start, cheers for the offer! I won't give any details specific to your car to DVLA (uk motor vehicle department).

I'll post some pictures when's theres a bit more to look at!! :p:

banzaitoyota, yep its a Locost, well kinda. I've got the chassis and bodywork from Luego
Its the Velocity chassis which has IRS instead of a live axle but standard bodywork. Don't have the welding equipment (or skills!) to build a true locost.

I'm hoping for a power/weight ratio of around 300bhp/tonne - should be enough to give a sub 5 sec 0-60! should be fun. :D
