The 1993 number should read 6,801.

i assume 92/93 numbers translate to 93 model year?

salamander 03-02-03 09:10 PM

The 3rd Gen RX7 was first announced on October 16, 1991. It was first displayed at the Tokyo autoshow 9 days later and went on sale in Japan on December 1, 1991.

So... the 1992 numbers would have included some cars that were sold in 1992 and 1993 as 1992 model cars. However, none of these cars were sold in the USA. The 1993 numbers would have been cars sold as 1993 and 1994 model cars because the model year occurs in the middle of the calendar year.

92 was a hell of a year for the FD! wonder what caused the extreme drop from that year to the next. Thanks for posting the info:)

I think the Japanese economy imploded in late 1991. Mazda was probably a little slow to respond and got caught with a glut of RX7's. Production was adjusted to better meet the demand the following year.

Does anyone know where to find the domestic production numbers by color, equipment group, and m/t vs. auto?

Found it, isn't the forum great :) !!
